Post Bristol Blast 3 - Post Event Thread  Reply with quote
Good Evening,

Well after the issues with the venue yesterday, amongst a host of other (non-Nerf related) issues, we had Bristol Blast 3 at The Downs.  A huge shout out to Boff for his support yesterday, we had a number of options we were considering but after speaking to Boff, this made the most sense.  The Downs was excellent, but not what we were traditionally used to, so there was much fun and chaos to be had by all.

We started a little later than planned, but managed to get in a fair amount of Nerfing - even if I spent the entire event wearing a high vis vest and a cowboy hat... the less said about that the better.

We started with a few rounds of HvZ, before moving into a variation on Bomb Run... this was good, but we soon realised that having the teams briefed seperately was not good - a good lesson learnt for next time.  The second iteration of this game was much better, as we were all playing by the same rules.

We then had a break and did some chrono-ing, thanks to Boff/CarrierII for bringing that along.

After the break we had another HvZ round (I ducked out and took far too many (268...) photos).  We then did a few Team Death Matches, before finishing up with 2 games of Kill Confirmed - first time I'd played this and it was loads of fun.

The weather was kind to us as it didnt rain, but Nerfing in breezy conditions was interesting.

I'd like to thank Luke, Dave, Pete and Jay for the work and effort put into organising the event, it's just a shame Luke (L11) couldn't make it.

Bristol Blast 3 Photos.

Video 1 - HvZ Opening Game
Video 2 - Bomb Run Variation - this was an interesting one, it didn't quite work at first... then we found out why!
Video 3 - HvZ via Davera Chest Cam!
Video 4 - Kill Confirmed - first experience of this and it was fun.

It was around 25, I think, maybe a little more. But not more than 30.

I'm glad it turned out to be a success after yesterday bad news!

I'm looking forward to seeing the pics and videos of the day.

You also deserve a massive thank you for sorting everything out last minute!

Ps. No baby as of yet! See what happens tomorrow.

Again, thanks for today folks. Smile My body has realised that it doesn't like day Nerfing. For some reason I ache more now than I do after an entire weekend away at GC with 3-4 hour protracted engagements and running a regiment. Hmm... Go figure...

If you're looking at developing Bristol Blast then I'm more than happy to help. I'm more the 'sage old bloke in the corner with a mound of advice, resources and contacts' than the 'directly getting shit done' type but I'd be more than happy to help.

I've not played Kill Confirmed myself before and it was weird to resort to yelling for a medic when I got dropped. Apparently, I've gone native with the LARPing! Very Happy It's a good fun game so thanks to BGUK for sharing that one. Certainly something we'll be adding to the roster for training drills going forward.

I think I'm going to make a laminated book of Game Types to bring to events with me so if we have to improvise, I have something in my kit. I need to add another pouch to it so that's not an issue.

A laminated list of games sounds like a good idea, I'm working on a Excel version of that with a load of games and how to play them.

We could do with your expertise Boff, we are all new at this so having someone we can call on for advice will put us at an advantage!

Glad you all had a great day.

I was nervous beforehand about playing in public, but it all turned out ok.

A decent turn out, I just hope no one was at the old location.

This is very much a learn as we go along sort of thing, ao thank you for all who attended for your patience.

Having HvZ in just an open space made it a very different game, and after getting tagged from behind in the first round without even firing, I soon adjusted.

Glad it all worked out in the end, and you had a great day.

Kill confirmed is the brainchild of OldManNerf’s... though shouts of medic are very common at GuN.

I call this one: "We're getting too old for this shit" Razz

I already have plans for getting my helmet camera back in action for next event so you'll have a Boff eye view of play to add to your videos.

I think your main problem is the too loose trousers. If you went for some thing cut a little slimmer in the leg you'd gain a 3fps increase in your running speed Smile

I've started the video editing process. 3 videos done so far... 2 more to follow at some point this week.

It's an interesting comparison to the previous venue and I'm surprised by how much I missed the close quarters action in the Chapel corridors. It definitely changes the game dynamic.

Did you have the group photo that was taken by the way?

We had a great time and cannot wait for the next one!

Hope things with the more usual church will be back on track. Is it worth checking if we can just hire a place next time or are you guys already looking into this?

Thanks Zenif.  If you look earlier in the thread there is a link to all the photos including the group one.

As for the next one we are busily working on that. Expect an update in the next few days.
