OldNoob - funny, they were showing fine when I posted. I've used them straight from Imgur set at 640 x 480, and they were displayed ok when I posted them in the other thread (which I closed and reopened here because it's going to be a WIP post now).

Were they showing too big or two small?

EDIT

Split topics for the sake of keeping discussion in the WIP thread to a minimum.

Treezy's post is a reply to this post.

The first four images do have original resolutions within 640x480 (they are 640x480, 598x480, 509x480 and 640x469 respectively) so they're not a problem. The last image, however, has an original resolution of 2180x1944.

Now, the forum does run a script to automagically resize images to keep things looking tidy (I believe to within 640px wide or tall) but to do this it first has to load the entire image and then resize it to fit which slows things down especially if someone is trying to view the page on a slow home or mobile internet connection (and even more so if it has to resize multiple images). Not a massive issue if it's resizing, say, an 800x600 image, although you will likely see a jump in post width as the forum loads and resizes the image, but asking it to resize a 2180x1944 image is asking a bit much.

To prevent this we ask that all images are posted within a 640x640 square - if you use imgur you can simply add a lower case "L" after the image ID and before the file extension as this links to a "large thumbnail" version of the image. This works because imgur automatically generates six additional links to resized versions of the image all of which use the same image ID other than an additional single letter suffix (as per the imgur API and listed in the bottom table of this page). If you are logged into imgur you can also request a "large thumbnail" link to share the image which will effectively do this for you. If you use a hosting service other than imgur we ask that you physically upload images at 640x640 or smaller (for a 4:3 ratio image this will be 640x480 or smaller). Full details of posting images with a variety of image hosting sites can be found in the "How to add images to forum posts" sticky in the Q&A and New Members forum.
