Post Magnus Slider Screw  Reply with quote
Got my lovely Sonic Ice Magnus in the mail today and decided to stick the new spring in it. Was going fine until it started leaking plastic bits.

Which after a short while I realised they belong to the main support of the front of the slider here.

If I try priming that front section will pop apart, even with the screw in because I'm guessing there's not enough bits on both sides to thread onto. Holding the front allows me to prime and fire as normal so it is the only issue.

What are my options? If it was a normal Magnus I'd just get a spare one for the slider but as it's the SI I'd prefer to salvage it if possible.

The most secure option would probably be to drill all the way through and poke an M3 screw through with a nut on the end. You'll never be able to repair the original screw boss so there's no point even trying.

If you want to keep it looking stock and don't mind spending some time on it, you could try replacing the boss with a length of plastic tube. You can buy ABS or Styrene pipe in a diameter small enough to take a thread from the stock screws. If you carefully file out the old, broken boss, you could glue a small length of the pipe in it's place and the blaster will be as good as new.

Thanks, I was thinking that a screw/nut through the whole thing might be the best option, but wasn't sure if that might weaken the shell. Since the prime is a lot stronger now I didn't want to risk cracks or splits.

Also wasn't too sure what kind of screw to look online for, but I'll measure the gap and see what will fit best.

Threading a new tube etc might look tidier but sounds a bit too fiddly for my abilities.

The plastic used for the limited edition clear blue and red Nerf guns does seem to be more brittle and less forgiving than the plastic used in standard guns.

Yeah my Sonic Ice Magnus did the exact same thing when I swapped the internals with an orange trigger Magnus that I've got.

It certainly came apart a lot easier than all the other blasters I've taken apart, and I wasn't particularly rough with it. Should of just stuck with a normal Magnus, but I'm a sucker for blue and didn't feel like painting one.

I've fiddled around with it last night and half fixed it, with how brittle it's being I am extra cautious about doing the internal mag mod now... as blindgeekuk has also warned me how much of a pain that is.
