The full test is now written up, video is on its way. Bear in mind that at some point the dart gate broke, I think this was the problem with the barrel extension thing.

Just did some preliminary analysis on this. Oh sweet Jesus that barrel increases the Standard Deviation of the data. There shouldn't be an order of magnitude difference between barrel and no barrel. :/

I think its a combination of too narrow a bore and the dart gate issue, it does work when you get a proper dart fit in the breech, just doesn't happen that often!

Edit 1- it's not just me, http://www.reddit.com/r/Nerf/comm...s_sealed_breach_barrel_extension/

Ok, OMW customer service say lube it (dur!) to fix dart door. As the tolerances are poor, this won't work. If I increase clearance around the door then I won't get an airtight seal!
Video of the test is now live. Look at how hard I had to work to get any darts out.

This is by far the biggest disappointment in this whole sorry saga.

Apologies if I've missed the data somehow, but did you ever test the OMW 7kg retaliator spring on a stock retaliator?

Cheers!

No, because you couldn't get it without the sealed breech and I sold my 7kg. It's no different to the Black Tactical v2 Spring if you want one on its own, or the Blasterparts hard range one. I would expect around 120fps with a stock bolt and breech, AR out. The big gains in the Retal are first spring, then a sealed breech and correctly tuned barrel. Dean at BlasterTECH has shot over 150 with a standard plunger tube and brass breech on only a 5kg spring.

That's fair enough 😊

The only reason I ask is because I'm trying to work out whether to fit one or both of OMW stage 1/2 kits for the retaliator with the 7kg OMW spring, or to just chuck the 7kg spring in, leaving the rest of the blaster stock (I won't be looking into a brass/sealed breech for a while yet just 'cause I don't have a great deal of spare time!). While I've found data showing stage 1 with a 5kg spring out performing stage 2 with the same spring, I haven't managed to find any data comparing a stock blaster fitted with an upgraded spring to an OMW stage 1/2 blaster with an upgraded spring.

The only benefit of stage two was the bolt engaged with the sealed breech in S3 and you got a spare plunger.  The dart fit in the S2 bolt is horrible, AVOID at all costs if you want real power. I would fit the 7kg Spring with everything else stock, AR out if you want max power and kids or fools don't get to tech it. Spend the money saved on a Gavinfuzzy pump grip. The stock catch can take 7kg easily, you might need a slightly stiffer catch spring.

If you want a broader opinion just pop a question up in the Q&A forum, then cross check the data if you need it. If you want your blaster chrono'd I can do a free test if you post it to me, it's a gap in my data.

Awesome, thanks! I may just take you up on that when I get round to fitting the spring. Cheers!

I got the spring second hand and did my own mods. Definitely loving the power output from it but I'm getting a perfect seal this way, ridiculous pop and all, so I don't see why I'd go for the full part replacement and lethal looking barrel.
Can confirm that a stronger catch spring is a must and you might run into trouble with O-ring slippage but everything else works a treat.
