Best replacement motor cage/flywheels and where to currently

Seeing as i enjoyed my experience with my sons Zeus so much at Wolfpack, and as i now have a suitable lipo and charger it's probably about time i embraced my inner flywheel and build something suitably electronic for my own use.

I'm going to rewire the CAM ECS-12 i have, mostly because i love the form factor of it. Internally it's a standard semi auto layout (ignoring all the camera gubbins which will be removed).

I'm assuming (and would appreciate being corrected if i am wrong) that the flywheel cage is a stryfe sized one? I should just dismantle it to check and will do before purchasing, but supposing it is what is the current cage du jour to replace it with and where would be the best/easiest/cheapest source to obtain one from?

Likewise with flywheels - worker are an obvious selection but are the artifact ones better? Sources for purchasing much appreciated...

Motors are most likely to be Hellcats - they tick the box in terms of price and performance.

Any advice welcome.

And no, this is not part of the Modswap - this one is going to be all mine!

Hellcats, stock cage, worker wheels will hit 130fps. Artifact red cages are thin on the ground, BSUK had some, check their site. Artifact wheels are non existant right now, all the toothed or metal versions are cock and the smooth are completely out of stock. Monkee Mods on Facearse are the main artifact supplier. Otherwise it's Taobao. Alice Coatduck does a 3d printed cage. No idea wether Cam cage is Stryfe alike or not, never bothered messing with one!
I am still not sold on the Artifact wheels, out of 6 I had 2 went in the bin, 2 were bent but just about serviceable and 2 were OK.
Mr.Crane

DRS cages come with flywheels and are pretty good! I've had one of each and both perform well, especially for vibration reduction - considering it comes with the flywheels the 3D printed one is pretty well priced

My 3D printed one melted unfortunately but I think it may have been a lemon, wasn't hard to fix!

According to him, the Stryfe, Rapidstrike and CAM all share the same cage (or at least his works in all 3)

BSUK are out of cages but they do have a limited number of matched Worker wheels in stock. As pointed out, Hellcats, stock cage and Worker wheels are fine for most UK games. Personally, I use Rhinos, Workers and a stock Stryfe cage.

Has anyone tried any of the openflywheelproject cages? My 3d printing skills are frankly **** but I'm going to have a crack at printing one at some point, I like that they're not just replicating stock geometry...
OldNoob

If they are canted then bear in mind spin=cock.
Alice does a 6.0 design cage that has a slightly higher crush. I hope to gather some data on her cages in the next few months.

Looks like my next port of call is the Bsuk website.... (when they get some stock of hellcats!)

Thanks all for the advice.

Nah, they're inline, just with a little more crush for stock wheels.
OldNoob

I would buy Alice's, they are already tested and printed, plus Canadian dollar is pretty good vs pound. I think she has an Easy store. Will grab a link some time today.

Just to throw another option into the mix i came across this via Reddit (thanks to Hawki007);

http://www.containmentcrew.com/shop/bsp/bsp_0001/

With the stl files available here

http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2007585

Might have a browse of 3d hubs again...

Just to let you know my Golden Gun used Hellcats, Stock cage and worker Flywheels and I was getting just under 130fps, I now have an artifact cage but killed the flywheels changing it out, if the new one's arrive before GuN I'll be able to Chrono it.
OldNoob

I should point out that Hawki's BSP cage has canted wheels, despite being beautifully made so spin=cock still applies.
Boff

OldNoob, his CC sold one is parallel axis. No spinning cocks there! Razz

Yeah - you win!

Balanced worker flywheels purchased from Blastersmiths.

Sourcing a printer for the Hawki007 (no spinning cocks) cage.

Just need some motors to come back into stock...
OldNoob

Alice's Facebook Page if people want to get a cage.
I always avoid agency printing, as it often fails to take into account different printer tolerances and if possible I always buy direct from the designer where possible, as they have usually got theirs dialled in to make it work. Shapeways are the exception as they do SLS!
old_man_nerf

Cheers - have messaged her about them. The printing quality looks far better than anything else i can currently find.
SirBrass

Tacticoolfoam here in the US still has some red cages in stock, and I found worker wheels just fine on Amazon. The great thing about the worker flywheels is that they basically come matched already.
old_man_nerf

Cheers - have tried ordering from Tacticool Foam before and don't think they were set up for distribution to the UK. Maybe they have changed since then. Otherwise it's back to waiting for Alice Duckcoat to give a quote for importing one of her cages or buychina...

Looks like Tacticool Foam have a bit of work to do to improve their custom experience. I can still check out in dollars but suspect like last time they won't sell me the part at the price quoted due to shipping. And then being able to go from my paypal 'cart' back into their site and not be able to get back to my cart without adding something to it is just poor web design!
SirBrass

I agree that their site really needs a better overall design and a major backend revamp (one that's connected to current inventory, for instance). They still list stryfe motor covers as in stock & took my money when I ordered one a week back. Next day I got recieved a PayPal notification from them that refunded my money and included the note "out of stock" for the motor cover. Site still lists it as in stock. I basically had to get one of Jase3d's covers, and shipping from down under to here was flat rated at $25 AUD. At least it'll be worth it when it finally gets here (whenever that is. Australia Post is as bad as the USPS on package tracking).

Unfortunately they are the only North American distributor of red cages. Though if bsuk gets them in stock, I'd gladly buy from them as royal post got the bsuk rs loom kit to me with a week of it shipping from bsuk, and for only 4. That's good value on mailing to the US.
