Bristol Blast 4 on 5th November

Hello Guys,

Welcome to Bristol Blast 4. This will be the last outdoor event we will host this year, what with the dreadful British weather and seasonal festivities around the corner. We will be bringing you more events in the new year.

After the debacle of Bristol Blast 3, we have been kindly offered the use of the Chapel in Downend again, and we graciously accepted for Bristol Blast 4 (free venue is free...). We will be compiling a list of local alternatives should the worst happen - but most options will be weather permitting.

Anyway, onto the details of Bristol Blast 4... like last time we will have a registration point where everyone must register upon arrival (exact location to be confirmed). Upon registration you will need to pay your entry fee, and you will be branded with some coloured tape to identify which team you belong to (this will make separating out for team games much easier, and will also identify anyone who hasn't registered).

Anyone who hasn't registered and is onsite, please do not be offended if you are approached by one of us - whilst this is a public-ish event, it is on private grounds and there will likely be children in attendance, so safety is paramount.

VENUE:
Church of JC of Latter Day Saints, Downend Road, Bristol BS16 5EF

ENTRY FEE:
3 or 50 KOOSH Darts per Person

TIME & DATE:
Start Time 1230 to 1700 (5PM for those not running on the 24hr clock)
Saturday 5th of November
Registration between 1230 and 1250.
Safety briefing 1250.
Foam flinging awesomeness to begin at 1300 (1PM)
There will be a break around 1500 (3PM)

RULES:
130 fps cap on blasters
EYE PROTECTION MANDATORY
no smoking on site
no alcohol
no swearing

IMPORTANT RULE - Minimum age is 8 years old, all under 16's need to be accompanied by a responsible adult... if you want to attend and are under 16 you must have someone onsite.
Zenif

Great news!

Awesome!

Thanks for setting this up so quickly can't wait! I'll be there with rebelle and stryfe (daughter and son!)
3 x darts for us please!

Need to get on with setting up the kit now... Very Happy
Franksie

Sorry can't make that weekend
NewportNerfer113

Looking forward to seeing you there Zenif (and sprogs).

That's a shame Franksie, I realise it's Bonfire Night so it may be that not everyone can attend.  But free venue is free, and hopefully it won't be too cold and still be a little bit not too wet.

On the weather front, because it is likely to have been raining at some point we will likely be limiting play to the car park and indoors, so as not to traipse mud throughout the building.

For those travelling by car, please park next to some of the cars that will already be on site - that way we can maximise the play area, and not damage anyone's car whilst playing.
Boff

Situation: maybe. We may have another booking that weekend so will let you know as and when. Smile
Welsh Mullet

Might try and make this as my first britnerf outing. What are the public transport options like?
NewportNerfer113

Be good to see you Boff, if you can make it.

Welsh Mullet. It would be great if you could make it. Public transport will be a b*tch to use... combo of many buses and trains I imagine. L11 and I are travelling from Newport. I'm sure between us we will have space for you... a small contribution towards petrol/bridge would be appreciated (and cheaper than public transport too!). We'll likely be leaving sometime around 1100 as event organisers we will be turning up early. PM me to arrange the details if you are interested.
L11

Boff, I was hoping you would be there as I'll be able to take you on with my new RS build!😜

And agreed NN113, we can sort something out!

Woo! More walls of darts to take cover from... Razz I might have to bring the shield if this keeps up. I suppose I could learn reloading drills with that in one hand and the Stryfe in the other.

I'll look at re-specing my RS to make it not suck like it did at BB3. Needs a complete rewire, me thinks - no more test looms. Very Happy I should actually get some Worker wheels in there with the Hellcats.
Welsh Mullet

Cool, I've PM'd you NewportNerfer.

Just to get prepared for this then, I've only got stock blasters, am I going to be massively out gunned?
And eye protection, any particular type, or are standard safety goggles fine?
L11

You won't be out gunned, there will be a few people with stock blasters there. Standard protective goggles will be fine aswell.

I love the prep for a war!
NewportNerfer113

If you are struggling for eyewear standard safety specs from B&Q or Wickes will be fine. Or sunglasses. Or glasses. And as L11 said  stocks not going to be a problem. It's likely to be close quarters any way.  There will be some modded stuff in use. But hopefully that will just make you want to mod 😀
Welsh Mullet

Last time I modded, it involved putting pennies behind the spring!

I've ordered some safety glasses, and I'm trying to locate my mag holders, but I might pick up a light chest rig.
Zenif

Alternate ammo

There was some talk last time of using megas for more gameplay options. Also my daughter is keen to bring along her Rebelle bow and arrows Rolling Eyes. Would it be worthwhile chucking them in the boot for one of the rounds?
L11

Bring allong what ever you want 😀, we only have Koosh in the pool though so if you need specific ammo you will need to bring it.

Us organisers have had a chat about trying to get a few mega rounds in the pool.
Welsh Mullet

Are there any special rules around ammo for this game, or is a tag a tag?

Just want to know what to pack
NewportNerfer113

No need to bring ammo if you have blasters that fire standard Nerf darts.  If you have special blasters that fire special ammo, you'll need to bring your own.

All standard darts will be supplied at the event (unless you plan on paying your entry fee with Koosh), then you just need to bring your blasters and your entry fee (and food and water - we're not feeding everyone Smile).
UK Foam

Why does it say 4-5th of November?
NewportNerfer113

It doesn't. It's Bristol Blast 4 on the 5th November.  I'll edit the post to make it clearer.
Dustybin

Is this still happening, right? The thread is very quiet so I needed to ask.
UK Foam

Yep still going ahead!

We must be busy prepping blasters!
L11

It has been quiet, not been much up update on. BUT, 1 week to go. Get the blasters prepped, Lipo's charged, mags filled and rigs ready!!
Boff

mags filled!

I would hold off filling magazines until the morning of the event, as a rule. Razz You don't want deformed darts.

My attendance is still in flux, I need to work out what the hell I'm doing next weekend. So little time, so much to do.
L11

It will be good to have you there! I'm really looking forward to it now.

And yeah I got a little over excited deffinalty do not fill your mags yet! Razz
NewportNerfer113

Yeah.  Sorry for the quietness of things.  I'd planned on popping on earlier today to bump the thread and remind everyone that it's still going ahead.

Looking forward to this, and the added complexities of having the grass as a non playable area due to the weather conditions.  Indoor plus an area of the car park should give us enough to play with, but it'll be interesting.

I'm also looking forward to testing out 2 new camera mounts - a chest mount and blaster mount Smile
OldNoob

I always think it's more interesting having just inside and the perimeter paths for outflanking, corridor wars are awesome. Pack some dust sheets to put over chairs to break up the longer open spaces and be really clear about grass being out of play. I would get a roll of hazard tape ahead of the game to mark your play area clearly.
Zenif

1 week to go

Not sure what to bring still..so it is all coming!?.. need to get the demolisher and FOSDB ready..

Now just hope we can have the venue this time!
L11

Ahh dust sheets what a great idea, I have been looking on eBay for camo netting but it was expensive for small amounts, I shall be popping to screwfix and picking some up.

Zenif- he offered it to us this time to make up for pulling out last minute last time, so we should be good!
Welsh Mullet

Is there going to be a chronograph present?
I've just managed to buy a modded rampage and I want to check I can use it

Otherwise I'm on stock demoliser and stryfe
Boff

Chronograph is a maybe from my end. If I'm there, I'll make sure it's with me. Smile Unless your modded Rampage is firing from black powder or HPA it'll be fine. Those plungers really aren't big enough to get anywhere near the 130FPS cap. Smile
BANTERMAN894

do you think i can use a 14 kg longshot? (stock breech)
OldNoob

That will be 130fps peak.
BANTERMAN894

Wait, what is the power of a stock spring and a Worker 9kg then?
OldNoob

Not as high as that. You would need a fully sealed breech with decent barrel to get over the limit. I am sure the event marshals will decide if it's safe. Boff can almost smell a blaster over 130 by now!
Remember they have already said the event will run largely indoors this time as well.
NewportNerfer113

Thanks ON.

If anyone is not sure if a blaster is safe, seek out one of us.  I believe that there are going to be 3 out of the 5 us organising the event on Saturday.  We'll likely do what we did last time with the coloured tape.  The organisers will have yellow tape wrapped around an arm, as well as the usual team indicator tape (red or blue).  Failing that I'll be the overly large Welshman wearing a cowboy hat - can't miss me.

If there is any doubt, then better safe than sorry, so it'll be on the sidelines until it can be chrono'd.

Whilst I'm at it... remember your eyewear protection. Especially as this is likely to be quite close quarters and many darts to the face are likely to happen.
L11

Anyone who is driving to the war, please can you all park in the same place at the far end of the car park (I'll be there early setting up, so park by the light green Vectra).

Reason I ask is I'm going to block that area off as a no play zone to avoid people using cars as cover. We are hoping to use the other half of the carpark and the tarmac as an outdoor mud free area if it's not raining.
BANTERMAN894

Can someone bring a set of spare 3 imrs and 1 dummy as my stryfe is rewired but the lipo is coming the day after the war so if anyone could I'd be grateful. (Haven't changed the connector yet)

EDIT: Anyone got a spare set of 3 imrs and a dummy?

EDIT

Please don't double post. If you must bump a thread we ask that you copy the contents of the old post, delete it and paste the contents into a new one along with what you want to add.

Thanks,

SSGT

NewportNerfer113

I'm guessing that the answer to your IMR question is... unfortunately not.  I don't own any IMR's and don't know anyone that's attending that uses them. Sorry.
BANTERMAN894

What about Trustfires/Ultrafires?
Franksie

BANTERMAN894 wrote:

You really don't want to go there!  Most people give a foam dart firing squad to trust fire users
BANTERMAN894

Well it is better than alkalines.
Dustybin

It is not. To use a trustfires is a sin, even all lines are better IMO.

I will not be able to attend, due to a lack of money.
Zenif

My brand new IMRs are my IMRs! You can't have any!

So before I get stick for not being one of the lipo cool kids ... having to explain why I have a large flammable firework charging through some weird equipment in the corner of the room is not a conversation I want to have with my better half..

IMR.. well that's just a normal rechargeable AA battery right.. to.. you know save on batteries.. Twisted Evil

See you all tomorrow!
UK Foam

Hope all your batteries are charged and you're locked and loaded because its nerfing time!
L11

Everyone ready for today?!
I'm all packed ready to go.
Welsh Mullet

Gg well played. Already hurting all over on the way home. Those rapid strikes are madness.
Zenif

Great war today! We all had lots of fun!

Great fun especially the confirm kill and zombie rounds and all the rapidstrike madness in the main hall!! So many people!!

Donuts were also awesome thanks!

I also now know not to flip clip 18 mags and will look for a decent carrier before the next war!

Also need some new flywheels got ragged as hell!!
