Sorry guys it's half term that week
UK Foam

Ofcourse I'm coming!

Half term is from the 13th of Feb to the 17th of Feb.
This event is the 18th of March with is term.

PS. I'm a teacher I should know. Wink
Dazzle740

Depends on the school, you may be a teacher but term times varies from school to school and the holiday length can also vary from school to school.
My eldest breaks up for Easter a week after my wife's eldest does!!!
Which is a right royal pain sometimes trying to organize holidays away.
Treezy

Already have two friends and possibly some of their kids interested in this one. And obviously I'm super keen!

You do realise that not all schools are off at the same time across the country, right?

My kids half term starts on the 17th, which just confirms the most important thing a teacher can ever teach: it's what you learn after you think you know it all that really counts....
UK Foam

Sorry I did make a massive assumption that if you are coming you must be local and then must also have the same term timetable! OOPS!

EDIT

Mandatory warning about keeping things on topic... -Boff

bigal123

OK, so Uk Foam has been encouraging me over on YouTube to try and get to this and I'm now looking into it. I have a flight booked for the Saturday to come down for Blastersmiths tech day on Sunday but unfortunately I don't land till 4pm but I might be able to switch my flight to the Friday night and get there for BB on Saturday. I'll probably be staying at the airport would anyone be passing by on the way I could possibly catch a lift with and possibly back to the hotel again?
Boff

Which hotel did you go with in the end? Airport or close to Tech Day site? If you're at the airport and you can get to the centre of the city using the regular buses on the Saturday, you'll be much more likely to be able to get a lift than if you were coming from the airport. It's 8 miles west of us and we're on the very western edge of the city here in Clifton. Bristol Airport really is shitly sited...
bigal123

Booked in at the airport just now for Saturday night but I can cancel it if I find something better suited. Yes looked at the airport express bus into the city centre so will be able to get there fairly easily.
UK Foam

I'm sure there are busses that run; however, as I have been badgering you, I'd be willing to come and pick you up (if you can find any other mode of transport).

But you'll have to come over earlier with the BB organisers to help set up =]
bigal123

EDIT.... "I don't mind helping set up,  I'm used to it Very Happy I'll look more into the logistics once I get the flights and accommodation re -organised but yes any lift would be much appreciated"

New flight and accommodation booked for Friday night so I'll be up for BB on the Saturday  Very Happy

Looking forward to it  Very Happy
L11

It will be good having you!
Looking like it's going to be a good turn out
Clockwork Wino

Count me in. This'll be my first official Nerf war (family foam flinging fun doesn't count) so I'm looking forward to it. Whilst I've not been to one of these before, I'm happy to lend a hand setting up, breaking down or anything else in between so let me know if there's any way I can be of help.

I'm after a bit of advice from the BB veterans - alongside the blasters I'm itching to bring along, I have a Pyragon that I've yet to fire in anger. Does anyone use vortex at these events and is it worth bringing along? I figured the corridors might offer some ricochet action but I'm willing to take advice from the seasoned pros.
L11

Clockwork wino - it will be great to have you there, we are a welcoming bunch of folk!

There has been allot of talk of using vortex at previous wars but I'm yet to see any used. We don't have any vortex ammo in the pool, I would suggest that if you bring any, mark them to identify they are yours and just give them a go!
Treezy

Clockwork wino: I have a Vigilon I'm tempted to use as a secondary, so you may not be the only one with discs.
blindgeekuk

I bought a load of the Chinese vortex discs for myself, with the intention of using them as a GuN vortex pool, but only 2 of us ever used vortex in a year of games.

Indoors, especially in your usual venues long corridors, vortex could be useful to get round shields, outside though, vortex will be trumped by darts or rivals every time.

Other issues are poor compatibility of the chinese discs, and the fact that getting a vortex disc to the neck or face hurts more than you expect.

I have a Nitron and vigilon lying around, so I could bring them, only real question would be ricochets count! I can think of a few times this would have been useful!

Problem is these disks are quite slow in the air and not much use at the longer range they are capable of, if there is any wind.

Also the biggest vortex mags I have are ten rounders which will mean much reloading!
Clockwork Wino

Thanks for the advice folks.  Iíll drag along the Pyragon and a full 40 round mag in case thereís a suitable game where it can be used to defend  a corridor.

On another point, do people usually bring spare blasters to act as loaners? Iíve got a few front-loaders I donít mind loaning out but if everyone is usually well kitted out Iíll leave them behind.

I can't speak for the actual organisers, but at the last event there seemed to be a huge table of loaner blasters for people to use.

I brought quite a few blasters with me last time (Stormtrooper Blaster, Stryfe, Modulus, Atlas, Vigilon, Hammershot, Triad, Roughcut) but I only really ended up carrying either the Modulus or Atlas as a primary in each round, with the Hammershot an unused secondary. I lent out the Atlas to a young kiddie for a round, but he couldn't even prime it! I won't be bringing quite as many next time, but I'll still have a selection....

I guess it doesn't really hurt to bring along a selection of stuff though, because it's nice to have a choice - plus you can show off your mods to impress people.
L11

We do have allot of loaners, but there is no harm in brining a few as Treezy said, but no real need if you don't want to have to carry them all
UK Foam

BOOM BB6 Down! Let's get the party started over here at BB7!

Hopefully we will have some more tech bought to this game!

Let the waffle games begin!
bigal123

Need to carefully plan my loadout as im flying down with it, so do I need any Mega blasters? Any games that mega darts count as more? Also the easyjet website says this

"Portable electronic devices (including medical devices) containing lithium metal or lithium ion cells or batteries such as watches, calculating machines, cameras, cellular phones, laptop computers, camcorders, etc., when carried by passengers or crew for personal use. Batteries must not exceed 2 g for lithium metal batteries and 100 Wh for lithium ion batteries."

So does that mean I'll be good to pack my IMR's and charger or do you think some one could lend me a couple for the day?

Cheers.
Rab

Slightly off topic, would you be allowed blasters in hand luggage d'you think ?
bigal123

I doubt it, so I've booked a hold bag to be sure.
Treezy

That's a pretty random restriction given that most laptop batteries are over 2g and will often be carried as hand luggage. Personally I'd just pack it in your luggage in the hold.
super gripper

stall

could the chaps who organise this ping me a pm please............ I have messaged the chap who started the thread but as of yet I have had no reply.
L11

Sorry, I'm not ignoring the PM I have been very busy, I'll respond a bit later. Cheers!
UK Foam

Anyone other than Treezy intend on using rival at this game?
bigal123

Are there Balls in the dart pool? If so I might pack my appolo to give It a bash in battle, only ever shot it in the house.
Treezy

bigal123 wrote:

I'm afraid you'll need to bring your own balls. I think I'm the only person who brings any Rival stuff to BB, which makes it easy for getting my balls back after each dart sweep.

I know I've got about 100 rounds, but given that I tend to be very conservative with firing them I've only actually lost 3 rounds in 2 wars so far. That's also testament to the great job everyone does with the dart sweeps.

You'll probably find the Apollo great for HvZ games, especially as the younger kids won't come near you if you have a Rival blaster #intimidation
bigal123

Unfortunately don't have a huge load of rival rounds just now so will have to leave it. Going to have to pack my case carefully and see what I can bring down, the list keeps getting bigger Very Happy

Enjoy it while you can before a go and buy an Artemis and a Nemesis Wink

Once the price goes down it's all going to go to balls, or be a balls up. As long as I don't drop the ball!

Was tempted by the Atlas on £20 sale.. but the noise of the prime is like nails on a chalkboard!
Treezy

Zenif wrote:

That's part of the reason I love the Atlas so much, because it's so over the top. Makes a racket when you fire it too, even before you bugger about with the spring. You can always remove the little ratchet pin that clicks on the teeth below the gear train and makes most of the noise; that quietens it down quite a bit.

As does adding a load of grease to the internals. While mine was second hand, it was pretty much brand new out of the box, yet the inside didn't have a drop of grease anywhere. It's noticeably smoother to prime once greased.

Anyway, the race is on for me now to create a hopper feed in time for the next BB. I was going to try and save my spending money ready for Blastersmiths' tech day, but we'll have to see. The temptation to make a 50+ round hopper fed spam cannon is almost too much....
UK Foam

Rival and Mega rounds is something we are looking into!

I'll bring around 250 rival balls with me and we can share those!

I think I'm going to have a play with rival!
L11

Just a few more days now!  Getting excited!
Remember if you are down for the BSUK tech day make sure you come and join us!

Well I went and got myself a 2nd hand Rival Apollo for dirt cheap and got a cheap 1/2 price 2nd mag. I wasn't expecting much for £15, possibly a quick repair job and try out before I resell as happens with most Nerf stuff.

But this.. this 'pistol' thing.. is utterly mental and primary worthy. chunky red and terrifying in a satisfying way!

So count me in on the whole rival thing, if nothing else at least I will get some good exercise priming it! I will try it out in a Nerf war then possibly clear the decks for an Artemis or Nemesis!
Treezy

Looks like it's going to be a bit of a Rival day. This has me much excited!
Welsh Mullet

Going to have to skip this one now. Have fun all!
Treezy

Oops, I accidentally aquired an Apollo today. I hadn't intended to spend any more this month, but when Marketplace showed one just a minute from my work I couldn't resist! I've already improved air seals on the plunger and removed some locks so I can now shotgun two rounds at once. Looks like BB7 is going to be Rival heavy!
Boff

Excellent. It's time to put theory into practice about the range advantages of darts. I'm going to go charge my Stryfe battery...
old_man_nerf

Much like dart blasters not all Rival blasters are made equal.....

If you come up against an Atlas you're laughing. A rewired Zeus is a different beast.
super gripper

I have been busy building blasters for eBay and Etsy, if people would like to save on paostage I can bring the blasters with me on the day.
I am not permitted to have my shop there but people can still pay me on the day if they would like a modded blaster.
I have stryfe's, demolisher's and modulus's

I will also have some blaster bags from bagablaster with me

bigal123

Busy packing my gear for the weekend, exciting stuff. Landing at Bristol Airport Friday night and staying over Friday, Saturday. I can get an Airport bus to Temple Meads station and Just wondering if anyone was able to sport me a lift on Saturday to the BB venue? On Sunday I can get the train up to Parkway for tech day and then back to the airport. So if anyone is passing the Airport on Saturday morning, that would be great if not anyone able to catch me at the station? Also do you except waffle tips as payment or Koosh only?
Nerf_miners

The Nerf Miners are coming . . .

Nerf niners are hitting BB7 hard - we plan on bringing 10 eager Nerfers and I might even get the wife to have a go.  My son is celebrating his birthday, so he will be getting more than his fair share of darts aimed at him...

Everyone is looking forward to the day - just got to fix a couple of guns.
Davera

Bigal, waffle tip are fine for payment.

Nerf_miners, what sort of age rage are you all?
Treezy

Is anyone planning on bringing a shield along on Saturday? Just wondering if I should include a shield buster in my load out?
L11

Shield rules we play are:

Shields can be destroyed by Demo missiles (or other similar missiles) and kills the wielder. All other darts do not count unless you hit the users person then normal rules apply.

If you run a shield you can only use a single shot front loader for self protection, but you are predominantly a support not an attacker.

Not sure how many we are expecting this time!
bigal123

Cheers, I've packed 100 waffle tips with me but I'll see if they survive the suitcase. Looking forward to meeting everyone and if anyone can help with a lift please let me know, if not I'll just jump in a cab from the station, doesn't look that far on the map.
NewportNerfer113

I'm getting excited for this now.  Just hope it doesn't rain too much, and that I'm at least 50% fit (stupid cold! Again!).

Sorry BigAl, I'm relying on lifts myself due to my mechanical wagon being out of commission, otherwise I'd offer to come get you.  Hopefully someone will see your plea and be able to help you out Smile
Treezy

Aarrgghh! I'm so excited! Got 2 pairs of kneepads to try out on the day (though I'll try to avoid falling over this time), and I'm working on bastardizing an old respirator sack into a hefty dump pouch with stabilizing thigh strap.

I also can't decide what blasters to bring: souped up Rayven (naturally), Atlas and Apollo (because I want to have Rival fun), souped up Slingfire (for fun in HvZ rounds), plus I'm bringing a boosted EAT for a friend to borrow, and probably a Stryfe (also for friend to borrow). That still leaves 50+ blasters sat at home not getting any lovin'.
Nerf_miners

Davera wrote:

Davera, The birthday boy is 13, who is bringing six (6) of his similar aged mates.  Combine this with his younger brother (10 Years old) and three that are old enough to know better and you have a range from 10 to 50+.  Come and say hello - there may be some cake!
Boff

I spent this morning playing with my radios and generally checking my gear through. My excuse was that I could reuse it all for Tech Day so it totally counts as work, right? Very Happy

I'll be there. With my Stryfes and maybe my Rapidstrike if I decide I need it. This one's looking to be a big one.
Clockwork Wino

I've spent the evening charging lipos and some last minute mods ready for tomorrow. Not being sure what to expect I've tried to pack for every eventuality, so I've got springers, a flywheeler, magazine blasters, front-loaders, a shotgun, rifles, pistols, mega and even vortex. Hopefully, by the end of the day, I'll have given everything a good pasting and have a better idea of what works for me.

Not sure if it's of any use but I've also packed one of those cube multi-timers that's handy for King of the Hill.

Asides from blasters, batteries, goggles, comfortable shoes and something to eat & drink, is there anything you veterans would advise me to bring?
Treezy

Clockwork Wino wrote:

The kitchen sink?

In all fairness, I'd say bring kneepads. You may not be planning on falling over, but it happens, and you'll appreciate the protection when it does. Plus kneeling for cover loads takes it out of your knees too. Also, a change of t-shirt is a good idea if you have a long drive home.

Oh, most importantly, bring a sense of fun. If you're not having fun, you're doing it wrong!
super gripper

If anyone needs eye protection I will be bring lots at £1 pair. Quality 3M, not cheap rubbish.
Treezy

Well I'm ready!

Well, that's me sorted. I'm bringing a few bits and bobs for friends to borrow too!
bigal123

UK Foam is picking up at the station but I've had a bit of a disaster with my holdall and the zip is broken and I have had to use my suitcase, don't know if he'll have room for it in the car. Can some one tell him I'm trying to get in touch, I can jump in a cab if not it's cool.
FDT

Have a great day guys - looking forward to the AAR and pics/videos Smile
UK Foam

So what are peoples opinions of rival?

And does anyone object to the loud out videos being uploaded to YouTube?
Treezy

Rivals are still, in my opinion, great fun. Maybe not hugely war practical, but fun; and that matters more.

Yeah, chuck my load out vid up. I look and sound like a tool, but that's nothing new for anyone who knows me....
