Fantastic news! I'm in. Good job getting it sorted. I'll bring Koosh.
NewportNerfer113

Me too. L11 is taxi driver this time 😀. I'll be paying cash. Would you prefer PayPal or is on the day OK?
super gripper

23rd wasn't one of my choices as I am working so no go Sad
UK Foam

Thanks to everyone bringing Koosh darts, this will be a massive help.

I do not mind if it is paypal or cash, either way it will be put together for more koosh darts!

Supper Gripper, unfortunately we cannot hire the venue on a Sunday, as it is a chapel. We have tried to keep it to a weekend day though.
NewportNerfer113

Just to add that along with myself L11 will be taxiing another two to the event.  So that should be 4 from the Newport Masses that are attending.
UK Foam

Good Lad!
Franksie

I'm a possible as I have a conflict currently
Davera

I will hopefully be attending. Work are being a bit difficult about me starting late. If I do come I will be paying with darts.
Dustybin

I should be attending with my dad. I have tactical gear this time ON.
L11

Nub Hunter - Do you know if the members of the chapel are attending again? The only reason I ask is they didn't have blasters last time and loaned some of  ON's. If he isn't attending it may be worth letting Darren know we won't have as many loaners this time.
Davera

If I come I can bring a few loaners, Strongarm, Stryfe, Demolisher, Rapidstrike, raider etc etc.
L11

Cool, if you come at least we will have a few. I'll try and bring some along but I'm brining 3 others so may be limited to space in the boot.
Overkhillman

Darren has replied! We are all go for 23rd at Downend, will call later to give more details too, but it's a confirmation!
See you all then!
Jay

EDIT

Can you not with the colours? It makes viewing on various devices... interesting... -Boff

UK Foam

Exciting stuff! All confirmed! =]

I guess everyone should just bring as many loaners as they can

A few questions about this Nerf war

Hi, I'm thinking about joining, but I have a few questions to ask before I can confirm.

1. Will I be able to bring a friend if i pay £14? (In cash on site)
2. Will I be able to leave early, or do I stay for the entire duration to pick up darts?
3. Is it alright to bring my own elite darts? (I have a blaster which sort of needs them, because I don't know if koosh darts are exactly the same size, and it sort of needs to be inaccurate).
4. Is there a place to put down luggage? (I'll be bringing my own Nerf guns for me and my friend to use in a Holdall)

I'll reply with more questions if i think of any more, but other then these I just need to sort out transport and i should be good to go.  Very Happy
Boff

Yes, there is a central gym like hall that we used as a base of operations last time for storing kit in. I'd recommend that the organisers of the repeat do something similar.

Just so it's confirmed; I'm not attending this one - I actually need to take a weekend off from Nerf for once! Very Happy
OldNoob

The RF20 Wildfire will fire Koosh just fine.
NewportNerfer113

Morning.  Just a week before the event... Thought there would be more chatter.

Do you have confirmation of numbers expected? And have you thought about how it'll work on the day? Similar to the first event or a bit different?

If we know what to expect it should make things smoother to manage... at least I think so.

Super excited for this btw.
Davera

I am still not 100% confirmed. I am hoping work will let me start 2 hours later so I can attend the whole event and make it in on time. I am rostered to start at 5, and I don't want to risk saying I'll leave at 4 and then totally losing track of time (or getting caught in traffic on my way out of Bristol).

Has a list of game types been drawn up? I know there was some talk of allowing Melee's and a few things different to last time.
L11

It would be good if you could come, I want to see that ultimate battle pack in action!

In terms of games I'm up for good old HvZ, capture the flag, team death match, bomb run last time was fun.
I also like the idea of a territory game, we could have a red and blue team with multiple territories around the site that are open to steal. Time the game and the team who hold most territorys at the end of the game wins.
OldNoob

The best way to play that game is to do "Flux."

You need 5-7 points, I use either a chair or pole, with double sided counters, about 3" square, one side red one side blue. The counters start at the bottom of the pole or under the chair.
You need a random game timer set from 5-15mins

The objective is to turn as many points as possible to your teams colour. To turn the point you must move the counter either to the top of the pole (a coat hook) or top of the chair, showing your team colour. This makes it hard to flip a point and shoot.

You should have red/blue face paint to distinguish teams- more fun that way!
Winning team is who has most points at the end.

Also Capture the Flag never works, people never notice tags on flag runs and it causes collisions. I never run it.
L11

That does sound good, I'll try and dig out something to use as counters.
And noted about capture the flag.

I'm hoping we get a good turnout
OldNoob

Don't forget cheap footballs and buckets for bomb run.
UK Foam

Sorry for the late replies I've been away!

We are hoping to have a similar number to last time.

Jay has a few ideas up his sleeves for games (expect the usual: HVZ, capture the flag, team death match, bomb run and flux).

I am sure we can integrate foam melee weapons into the games.

L11 could you find some counters and tape for flux? I've never played it so do you fancy explaining the game when we are there?

Thanks Pete
OldNoob

I would avoid melle.
Franksie

As a parent, i'd certainly not want to involve my kids in a game with melee
Boff

Avoid melee unless you have trained LARP weapons checkers and instructors on site. It's a cluster fuck for game balance and safety if it's not done right. Indeed, if you wanted to turn up and hit people with melee weapons, there are LARP systems abound. This is planned to be a Nerf war... Smile
memike

I have voted for bringing £7, but I will be bringing £14 instead since I'm bringing a friend, i have transport sorted so I should be able to come.
NewportNerfer113

Thought I'd let you all know that I'm planning on trying to capture some action cam footage to show off after the event... you never know, you may get a first person view of me tripping over and tackling someone again Smile

I'll also take some time out in the second half to take some photos to put up on here afterwards.

Ta
Davera

Great idea. If I come I will bring mine as well. Not sure how well the battery will hold up. Might be a good idea to add all the footage onto one video afterwards. My computer is not up to the editing task at the moment sadly.
NewportNerfer113

good shout - I'll bring lappy and we can transfer any footage onto it if you like.  It's shocking for editing, but i have time, and a plan... possible access to another laptop with superior processing power, average RAM though, but then I can set it up and let it go!
Dustybin

I have a gun cam that could be used, if whatever editing software can use Apple stuff, I will bring a cable to transfer the footage.
L11

With all this recording equipment, I expect a spielberg like production to come out of Saturday.
NewportNerfer113

I'll take on editing responsibility... as long as expectations are that it's comparable to a 7 year old Spielberg filming with a potato!

Dustybin - not sure if i can use Apple type files, but I'll happily give it a go, I can always try to convert them to something I can use.  If it is .MOV then I should be OK.
Davera

I can finally confirm my attendance!!!!

Looking forward to this. Though I need to leave fairly promptly to make it to work for 6.

I can bring my Chronograph along for if anyone wants to to put a few darts from modded blasters over??
NewportNerfer113

Excellent news. I'll definitely be taking advantage of the chrono!!!
L11

Brilliant, good to hear. I will also like to take advantage of the chrono!
NewportNerfer113

OK... so seeing as we are hoping to make this a regular event, and with the mountains of footage I'm hoping to wade through... hopefully being able to cobble something together that will encourage others to attend future event, as well as being jealous of GUN logo for their regular event.  I thought I'd have a dabble and do one for Bristol Blast...

This is just my initial attempt, I quite like it, but am open to ideas or suggestions to make it snazzier.  I've gone for something fairly simple.

Davera

I like it. It keeps it in keeping with the Britnerf logo (I hope that's OK).

Could I suggest trying to make the wording stand out a bit more?
Dustybin

I agree, the wording blends too well into the backround. I like the idea of keeping it similar to the Britnerf logo, it shows where to find us (if you know about Britnerf).
NewportNerfer113

Thanks guys. Just cleaning some mags and will have a rehash at it.
NewportNerfer113

ok - 2 different fonts used as the Army one I found with the degrading on it was blending into the flag, and changing the colours didnt make it any better.

Option 1 - I like this font, it's clear and fun:

Or option 2, also cool and clear looking:

Dustybin

I prefer the first one, the second is too sensible, clean and it isn't very fun.
L11

I really like them,  the second one stands out a bit better. Custom flags and patches soon to come!
Davera

I prefer the second, stands out more.
Justajolt

OMN!!! BGUK!!! These southerners are beating us to the patches!!!
NewportNerfer113

I'll wait and see what a few others think... if it's still 50/50 then I guess I'll need to find a fun yet functional font for a 4th version Smile
NewportNerfer113

Yo! JustaDuctTape... get off our thread!!!!
NewportNerfer113

Option 3 - British Army Stencil

Option 4 - Fun, but not see through so pops a bit more

Davera

I still think I would go for 2. To me, fonts aren't fun, just readable or not.

Now if only they could come up with an original, witty and eye catching design I'd be bovered Smile
NewportNerfer113

Function over form...
UK Foam

Hi Guys!

1. We can definitely avoid melee games if children are around; however, we could perhaps have some 1v1 melee action with adults for those interested?

2. Filming the event would be great. Thanks to everyone getting involved in this!

3. Bringing a chronograph if a fantastic idea, perhaps you think of some kinda of raffle idea to accompany this?

4. I really like the Bristol Blast logo (Option 2), as this will definitely be a recurring event!

Lastly.

I am absolutely gutted to say that I am now unable to make the event  Crying or Very sad . I will be giving the 1000 koosh to Jay, so you won't be short of darts!

Jay was already going to be organising the event more than myself anyway, so this doesn't really change anything, I just won't be able to join you!

Gutted, but I intend to arrange another "BRISTOL BLAST" for late August!  Idea  Very Happy
Davera

Glad Bristol Blast 3 is already being talked about.

A quick question on the dart front, is anyone going to have a problem if I bring some elites  rather than all Koosh?
UK Foam

Well this will be a regular event! Lets start talking about Bristol Blast 3, 4 and 5! haha!

That would be fine, but for longevity Yellow Gen 3 Koosh will be preferred in future as they have a much wider diameter foam! Hence I bought 1000 of them which you will see tomorrow =]
L11

Gutted you can't attend I wanted to see the upgraded EAT, thank you for the 1000 darts! You will have to get use of then in Bristol Blast 3
UK Foam

Haha I know! Really wanted to use it and see your worker rampage!

I'm meeting Jay in Bristol tonight to hand over the stuff and some loaners!

And tomorrow after the war I'll create the even for Bristol Blast 3! Shocked
Davera

How many loaners will we need. I can bring a few, but don't want to be bringing blasters for the sake of it.
UK Foam

Well there's not harm in bringing them and taking them home again!

=]
L11

Last time there was around 8 members of the church who didn't have blasters.
Davera

349 darts loaded and ready to go!
L11

I wasn't sure if loading my mags tonight would cause any damage to the springs, with prolonged stress of them being compressed.
Boff

Springs aren't your problem, the foam on the darts is much more the issue. In fairness, over night isn't too bad in my experience when it comes to flywheelers. Smile
L11

Cool, i was thinking the return spring in the mag may not extend the full length is compressed to long. But I suppose overnight isn't too bad.
NewportNerfer113

Shall any monies be passed onto Jay? I was planning on PayPal, but am doing cash instead.
Davera

It should be OK, they will be in for not overly long in the run if things. The bonus is it will save me a bit of time in the morning.
UK Foam

Good Morning! Hope you're all prepped!

Don't forget to bring loaners!

All money or darts should be handed over to Jay!

These will then be used to buy more darts next time!
Dustybin

I am ready and I will be heading off soon (to avoid the traffic), we will be paying there.

I will be bringing a titan if people want to use it, it is really fun.

EDIT: Oops, I did it again. Boff, can I borrow your screwdriver again?
NewportNerfer113

Unless it is a sonic screwdriver. I'll be bringing some with me. If they fit you can borrow it.
Dustybin

I also forgot eyepro. I am so forgetful.
Davera

I have one pair of eye pro I can lend out.
Dustybin

Thanks Davera! I only needed one pair because my dad uses his glasses as eye protection.
NewportNerfer113

Yoohoo... we're here. Where is everyone?
Overkhillman

Hi everyone, I'm running late. Sorry for the delays, I messed up transport. Will be there at half 2, Darren is still happy to run the 4 hour day from then. Feel free to call me on 07548533479 if you need me. I'm on my way with many Koosh, and apparently there's a chap called Ben there to let y'all in
Jay
UK Foam

I heard things didn't quite go to plan, how was it though? Did it all work out okay inches end?

Also how were you for darts I believe you had around 1500, was that enough?  Or how many do you think we need for another event?
NewportNerfer113

It all worked out OK. I took some video, and I have Davera and Dustybins fooutage,  plus photos, so I was going to put up a post event post this evening with some pics.  Video maybe towards the end of the week.

It was a really good day. Darts wise could do with about 2500 as some blasters just spewed them out.
L11

The day in all was a real success. As above unfortunately Jay was running late with the darts. We made do with the 500 that people brought allong, with a few pistol only rounds (HVZ and a Team deathmatch). When Jay arrived we had plenty of darts between the 17 of us.

It was good to see a mix of britnerf members and others who saw the day arranged via the forum and just turned up, we encouraged them to join.

From talking to everyone on the day the general consensus is people would be up for a game every 2 months and will commit to that, but they couldn't commit to a monthly game all the time. So it looks like we can get a regular game established.

In all, I really enjoyed the day and the feedback was so did everyone else, it was a shame the darts where scarce at the beginning but we made do.
