BritNerf 2nd Anniversary Photo Competition.

The party just keeps on going.

The BritNerf 2nd Anniversary Photo Competition is a simple one. All youíll need is a blaster, a camera and a Ďfamousí landmark.

What more is there to say? Simply take a photo of yourself nerfing at a famous landmark, post it below and youíre in with a chance to win an Elite Rapidstrike CS-18 or one of two Elite Hailfires courtesy of Hasbro UK.

A good competition wouldnít be complete without a few rules now would it?

Entrants need to submit their picture in this topic. Only one picture per member but group photos will be fine. Please note if submitting a group photo, you will have to share the prize.

The closing date for the competition is Monday 9th September 2013 at which point this topic will be locked and we will not be able to accept any more entries.

The Winner will get to take he first pick from the prize kitty. Runners up will get to choose from what is left.

By its very nature, this competition requires you to be showing your blasters in public. For this reason your photo must contain stock (at least externally) blasters or those with light cosmetic mods only. Any painted blasters or heavily modified shells will be disqualified. Remember, this is just for a bit of fun. Itís not a modding competition. There is already a place for you to show off your modding skills.

Your chosen landmark must be well known, at least in your area. If you donít live near anything interesting, points will be awarded for obscure landmarks. In this case you will need to submit an explanation of your landmark and why it is Ďfamousí. We will be researching your claims so no fibbing.

The winners will be selected by the admin team using methods too complicated for even us to understand. We do know that we are looking for awesome. Big landmarks, huge arsenals and vintage/rare blasters all add awesome points. Your picture needs to stand out.

International members are welcome to enter the competition however, will ask that you make a contributuion to the shipping fees for your prize.

    Pictures must be clean!

No pictures of fruit (Mogul, that means you!)

Go forth and Nerf! You could win an awesome prize!
UKNerfWar

Extended the closing date.

I figured more people will get the chance to take a photo over the summer holidays. You will notice that the closing date is already an important one in the Nerf calender.
UKNerfWar

New 1st Prize Added!

The winner will now receive a brand, shiny new RS.

Two runner ups will receive a Hailfire each.

Now the prizes are even more awesome, the summer holidays have started and the weather is great, there is no excuse not to enter!

Have fun!
Boff

Working on my entry but if I win, can I get the Hailfires instead? You know, on account of having the first RS carcass in the UK. :p
SSGT

Damn, If I just bought that Triad yesterday I could have entered a pic on my boat before I go home.  Sad
NERFINATOR

it is, and here it is in all it's glory  Smile

St Mary and All Saints, the crooked spire church, was built in the late 13th Century and finished around 1360. Itís the largest church in Derbyshire. The Spire stands 228 feet from the ground and leans 9 feet 5 inches from its true centre. The Spire was built straight and the reason that it 'twisted' may be the amount of green timber used during its construction. Then 32 tons of lead tiles were placed on top

Huh, so it's a Church and not a cathedral then? Awesome - I see it from the train whenever I go to see the in-laws up North. Never actually visited the church itself, however. Very Happy

*returns to plotting his own photo entry - you're going to have get up early to beat me :p*

A quick read of the rules will make things clear for you.

ill sneak my jolt and camera to camp next week

Being one of the judges, I can't win this competition... But that doesn't mean I can't enter!

On the roof of the Olympic Stadium in London this weekend where I was working on the UK Athletics anniversary games.

If you want a chance to win a Rapidstrike or a Hailfire you really need to enter this comp. It's really easy.

Tut, tut, goofing off work like that! I still maintain I'd prefer the Hailfire if I won... :p

EDIT

Quoted pic removed for the sake of being tidy.

UKNerfWar

Right, with just under a month to go I have decided to move the goalposts.

If I'm honest, the enthusiasm for this comp has been less than I expected so I think it's time we changed things to make it even easier to enter.

We will now accept any pictures of you nerfing. The winner will be the most original picture that stands out the most. I see a lot of you are classic car enthusiasts so fill your car with blasters and take a picture for a chance to win. If you don't have anything interestting and can't be bothered to go outside, dress up, pull a silly face, strap a Vulcan to your dog, do anything, just post a picture. Worried about people seeing your face? Blur it out, cover it up or wear a massive hat! Your face is not important, your support is!

I can't make it much simpler than that. Come on, show your support to the community and the forum!

The second update is regarding the prizes.

I have had a few emails about the prizes so I have decided to change that aswell. Now the prizes will all go into a kitty and the winners will get to choose their prize. First place will get the first pick and runners up will then get to choose in turn.

I will also be adding some more prizes to the pot so there will be even more chances to win!

Now no one has an excuse not to enter.

I look forward to seeing your entries.
SSGT

So would another landmark based pic be considered unoriginal? Being a student (read: does everything last minute Razz) I was going to go out end of this month when I've got a bit of free time, and access to a car.
oukie

I for one am kind of glad for the rule change's as I did not have a clue about landmarks near me that anyone would notice, but I did have a good idea for a piccy else where, I shall now endeavour to get one in.

Chris
NERFINATOR

I don't want to sound a grumpy old git on this, but to change the rules 1/2 way through is a little unfair to people already entered into any comp, I'd like to quote " If you donít live near anything interesting, points will be awarded for obscure landmarks"
UKNerfWar

Don't worry Nerfinator, your pic of the Cathedral prompted me to research the spire. That counts as pretty darn interesting in my book. Feel free to resubmit a picture if you think you can crank up the awesome.

It should be noted that we're still looking for 'interesting', we've just broadened the subject matter. Landmarks are still a great subject for a picture.
Boff

Just packed up the big bag o' guns for tomorrow morning. Smile

EDIT:

I call this: Derping in the Fog:

For the full version and effect, click here.

Yes, that's the Clifton Suspension Bridge in the early morning fog with the BSUK team. We got up at 6am to take this picture and it's the last one we managed before we came home. I've (centre) just shot my other half who's taking the photo with that Strongarm I'm holding. The other two are reminding me that I'm about to experience great, great pain (and they're clearly enjoying the thought(. We went for the moody, gloomy effect because the blasters stand out quite nicely against it. If you look carefully, you'll also see some BSUK gear, too. Smile
Franticblue

This is me at abbington park in northampton not sure if it counts as a landmark ? It has been around for a long time in one form or another even mentioned in the domesday book in 1086,apart from that it would be a great place for a Nerf war lots of varied areas from open to wooded, lakes and best of all free parking all around the park.

OldNoob

Mine is on its way, just got a prop to organise.
UKNerfWar

Hurry up guys!

Competition ends Monday!
bitofall

Damn my lazyness, I need to take a trip up to the castle
OldNoob

Here is my entry- Props to Shaggy Login for lending me a car with a bonnet! Got it done just before the rain started.
UKNerfWar

2 days to go!

You've only got this weekend to get your entries in. The competition closes at 23.59 on Monday.

You've still got this weekend to get out there and get snapping!

Remember SHORT controlled bursts

Not easy to see but to my left in the gap next to trees in the distance you can just see the peak of East Lomond Hill,
A 1512ft Volcanic Mountain which has a rich history and on a clear day from on top of the Volcano  Shocked you can see for miles and miles,  the Highlands to the north and the Borders to the south, it is also around 350 million years old  Shocked so this bad boy was 280+ million years old when the Dinosaur's died out

I'm 6'2" and my misses is 5'1" so when she took the photo you can barely see the peak  Embarassed

That's my youngest Daughters with me with Clare on my leg (11months) helping me to cock the Centurion,
The other little girl is Alice (three years old) she is holding her favourite Nerf blaster the new Heartbreaker Bow

Oh and by way the Centurion is a HUGE blaster its just that I'm a Mahoosive guy. so it looks a bit small  Laughing
UKNerfWar

Oooooh. Not long left now!

Will we see any last minute entries?
SSGT

Of course! Last minute is the only way. †Very Happy

(Click on the image for a larger version.)

Quite obvious really, it's the Angel of the North (albeit with an ugly great northerner in DPM jacket, trousers, bush hat and webbing, along with a face full of cam cream to match †Very Happy ).

Work began on the Angel in the year I was born (1994) and finished February 1998. It's as tall as four double decker buses, and has a larger wingspan than a Boeing 767. The rusty appearance is actually a feature of the type of steel used to construct the sculpture, which was developed to form an outer layer of corrosion to protect the rest of the steel beneath from any further decay (similar to the effect of aluminium oxide forming on the surface of aluminium).

The northerner is carrying a Rayven, an EAT, a Strongarm, a Triad and a few 12/18/35 mags/drums and a hexi-cooker, just in case. Razz

Unfortunately that speedloader doesn't work with Nerf mags.

Competition Closed

Thank you to all that entered for all of your support. Our members are what makes our forum awesome. Good luck everybody!

Now excuse us as Scouts and I retire to a quiet room to choose the winners. When the smoke changes colour we will have reached our decision.
UKNerfWar

After much deliberation, Scouts and I have emerged from our locked room, confident that we have chosen our winners. Although there weren't many entries, we thought that the effort you guys put in was above and beyond what we expected. Thank you to all that entered for showing your support and showing us your lovely pictures. Our members are what makes this forum great.

So without any further ado, on to the winners!

*Drum Roll*

In first place, with first pick from the kitty is...

SSGT

His simply breathtaking picture of 'The Angel of the North' really caught our eye. We can only wonder what the tourists thought of him in his tatical gear.

http://britnerf.co.uk/sutra7966.php#7966

In Second place we have...

Nerfinator

His picture of this bizarre Cathedral spire was not the thing that clinched it for him. Instead we had respect for the size of his stones. It takes a real man to go out in public with a Speedload 6.

http://britnerf.co.uk/sutra6633.php#6633

Finally, a round of applause for...

Boff, CarrierII and Spud
(Otherwise known as the BSUK team)

Their decision contrast the blasters against the early morning fog meant they had to get up at 6am (same as I do every day). I'm not sure if the desired contrast was the main reason for the early morning. My guess is they wanted to take the picture when no one would be there to see them! Either way, it's a great photo.

http://britnerf.co.uk/sutra7770.php#7770

I will be contacting all of the winners in turn so that they can take their pic of the kitty.

A big thankyou to all of the entrants that didn't win. You guys will be receiving an Elite Jolt just for being awesome.

We went for the early start because we were hoping for a nice sunrise but instead had to manage with the fog. The security guards on the bridge were very bemused at our presence! Very Happy We'll pick up the Hail-Fire at BAGW (since I'm figuring the RS will have already gone by then! Very Happy)
OldNoob

Well done guys, I loved the winning shots too, big respect for roaming around dressed like a Nerf toting loon! As for getting up at 6, that has to be a first for (ex) students?

Hey! I resent that remark! I'm manning the BSUK office from 7:30am every morning! Sometimes even earlier! Admittedly, we're not your average students but still, I resent the implication! Razz
NERFINATOR

cheers guys, yeah I was getting some very strange looks  Laughing
OldNoob

I just knew you'd bite....
Hey at least your commute to work is short!
Boff

Hey my commute is a whole 183" from my bed to the door of the office! Pity me! Razz
NERFINATOR

I don't like to bring this up, but whats happening with the prizes? as I'd like to brag on facebook about it, I don't win prizes often  Laughing  Embarassed

PM on it's way!
