Centurion Redemption?

I was doing some thinking on what blasters I may get in the future and, being someone who loves impractically large Nerf guns, my mind turned to the Centurion.

It's been made very clear to me at this point that the Centurion has a ill-famed reputation for being a very unreliable blaster, and has been known to munch mega darts to death. However, from what I can tell, when it DOES work, it is very satisfying to fire, especially the sound of *THUNK* and the recoil that it brings after you fire it.

And I was wondering: is there, in any way possible, be it modding, tweaking, nuking, whatever, to remedy this dart munching problem? Because I know, deep down, that I'd love the gun if it didn't have this problem.

Yes, I am aware that the Longshot exists... but, by own personal preference, I like this one simply because it's bigger (seriously!). It's just really *THUNKS* with me you know?

Anyway, give me any solutions or theories you can think of. I'm genuinely interested in if there is a way to make the Centurion un-suck.

Some suggestions here. The Mastodon is far better whilst retaining an impractical enourmous size.

They are not quite as bad as people think, just disappointing in the power stakes despite the size of the beast and my Blasterparts springed Magnus embarrasses it.

It seems most of the problems with dart munching arise from mag alignment (too much up movement) which has been improved with mag modifications on later versions.
Side by side with the old style you can see the new one has areas smoothed where the breech meets the mag and trapezoidal steps on the front and back of the collar around the mag to pull the mag down and reduce the alignment issues.

People have simply put an elastic band around the lip to do a similar job. I've added even more height to the steps on my new and old style mags to stop all up movement and have only jammed once since when I primed too fast after firing.

You can't do rapid successive shots as the bolt has to spring back between each one.

Masterdon is the way forward for you!

Good to know there may be some hope for the Centurion. I wouldn't be against adjusting the munching problem and then souping it up. Also:

Oh-ho, don't you worry, I'll be sure to get that beast at some point, you can count on that.

but why not both guns ormaybedualwieldingbothyouknowwhatImsayin'

Well if you have any success upping the power without destroying the innards please keep us posted. I for one would be interested in your results.

I'm planning on building a mega xbz centurion if that counts!

I found removing the dart post and AR has eliminated all the dart munching problems, unless you cycle super fast. I've still not managed to crack open the plunger tube on mine: running a knife along the glued seams and soaking in boiling water has failed to loosen the tube end.

It's frustrating, as I really think that with a mighty spring in there, this could be a fearsome blaster. I just have to many other things going on in my life to be bothered with this right now.
