FDT Modshops are go!

Announcement time!

We have been doing a lot of planning behind the scenes, and have decided it would be a good idea to show the kids how to upgrade and mod their own blasters. Not only will they end up with better blasters but it will also get them using screwdrivers and other wee tools, something a lot of kids just don't do anymore! We have BigAl and Rab who are seasoned vets when it comes to mods, so we're launching FDT MODSHOPs!

This will entail classes of 5 kids, aged 10 and over, getting hands on with low level mods to start with. Modshops will take place at Transgression Park only for now from 6pm - 7pm before our events. This will give the kids a chance to grab a snack before they take their newly modified blasters into battle!

Kids supply their own blasters and we supply the upgrade parts and know how Smile

We've lined up mods for blasters that have similar internals as we can deal with more blasters that way.  We've agreed the 2 tiers of mods we'll be offering and they are as follows:

Blasters - Firestrike - Sidestrike - Pink Crush - Nitefinder

TIER 1
Spring upgrade (spring provided)
Plunger seal improvement
AR removal
Relube

TIER 2
Dead space removal
Air release holes plugged
Brassed barrel
LED replacement (on Firestrike and Nitefinder only).

Modshops will cost 12 per person. Parents/adults are invited along as well. We've decided on 10yo and up as after replacement springs have been aded, younger kids may not be able to operate the blasters. We'll let the parents decide if their 10yo's could handle this.

If successful we'll move to larger blasters and mods.

First one will January Smile

This sounds great! I wish I had had access to something like this when I was getting started modding/Nerfing. I hope everything goes well with the pilot sessions, and make sure to give us an update on how they go!

Thanks a lot Scout. It came up on the discord chat and I know UKNW's and ours won't be the only ones to spring up. It's a good time to be starting out I think!

I have a technical question: how are you planning to mod the Firestrikes? Those springs are a bugger to fit to the point we currently don't advertise that our Side strike spring fits them. Smile

I seem to recall there are a couple of other companies around the world that make springs for blasters.  Very Happy
Boff

That doesn't change the technical nature of the question. Doesn't matter where you get the spring from, that plunger is still a bitch to respring. Razz

Yes it is a fiddly one and to be honest might struggle to get it done in an hour but I've done it before by winding the springs on and off to avoid messing with the plunger head. I'll try and have a dry run session with my kids and see how we get on Very Happy

Oh for the days when dime-modding a maverick and removing dart posts provided acceptable performance gains! Why did all these complicated compact-direct-plunger mechanisms have to go mess that all up?  Laughing  But seriously, it might be worth forgoing the firestrike altogether in favor of nightfinders (assuming you can find a sufficient supply).

Excellent idea.

Fin is sooo excited about this

Thanks for the super quick service with the spring delivery Boff, top man.

You might want to revise that listing, I just wound the spring on in less than 30 seconds, so good to go.

I've done two today and filmed one of them. Very Happy I'll get the guide up on Youtube when BT reinstall our phone line. The actual difficult part is getting the original spring off in the first instance. I'm not convinced a 10 year old would manage that if I'm honest. It's one of those 'get an adult to help you things'.
Rab

Yeah , exactly what we thought. We'll get the spring started and then they can do the winding bit.

And yep I thought the same, went on easier than it came off.
Northwind

Very cool!

Your welcome guys  Laughing I did this with my sons Pink Crush, as it has the same not so removable plunger head, ages ago. Yeah don't think the average 10 yr old will manage it but we'll be there to guide them through it and do the donkey work.

Love this idea! Should mean that less loaners will be needed at wars
