Thanks for Welcome guys,

I tend to get around a bit, clock up mileage like a Jet so travelling has never been a problem but yeah based around Cheltenham... but I'm not Posh... honest.

Forgive my ignorance but what exactly is Green Cloak? (GC) Google Search was not much help...
Boff

www.greencloaks.co.uk - GC is a LARP based in Sussex set in the far future that uses Nerf blasters and foam melee weapons in weekend long events 4 times a year. The next one is the 12-14th June 2014. Smile

Excellent stuff.... I shall hastily get my kit together for this one then... not too far away on the calendar...

If you're serious, we'll see you on the field. Look for the great big Blastersmiths UK sign next to the organisation desk. Smile The rules can be found here and the Facebook group is here.
OldNoob

I thought this deserved it's own topic! So I have used my magic to move it.
Also an opportunity for new members and lurkers to get the latest information.
Elime_rawne

I am also considering attending this for the first time. Ive had a peek at the FB group and rules, if anyone on the forum has any protips, feel free to share the knowledge.

What do you want to know?

You've got a choice of regiments to join, each with their own character. If you're a hardened Nerfer then the 23rd is probably your natural home with all the other heavy blaster users. The Delmont 205th (thing spacer gangers) are generally a support regiment with all their medics and engineers. If you like sneaky then the Kingskeep 98th are usually found hiding in a bush, sniping from out of sight. Personally, I've wedged myself firmly into the 109th Light Infantry (primarily melee faction) as an NPC because a) it's getting away from work at the end of a long day selling stuff and being crew b) they have the best hospitality of any of the regiments and c) because I need to learn to melee properly.

The best thing you can do is join the FB group, announce yourself as a new member and people'll lend you a hand.

Aaah Facebook... that awesomely powerful tool in the social Media battlefront... unfortunately due to strict company regulations I don't have a FB account but have been reading up on GC a lot. I really hope I can make it because I'm taking my Longshot apart specifically for this Very Happy

Er, they can't do that. Long story short: ACAS (the arbitration council for the UK) pitched a fit at companies doing it a few years ago and told them to stop. It pisses me off that companies still think they can pull that sort of bullshit. That and requiring you to surrender personal account passwords.

On topic: what are you doing to your LS, out of curiosity? They're something of a anachronism on the field these days and we don't see many of them being anything other than sniper rifle phys-reps that don't actually fire. Remember, the field limit for GC is 130FPS. Full blaster rules and notes from myself and the team that wrote them can be found on a private post on the blog.

Hi Boff,

I was looking at doing something like being a medic in the Delmont regiment. I was kind of looking for an opinion as to what is the most fun to play, tips on the best gear and how to spend the starting points.

I will also join the FB group.

Aye with the field limit in mind I am taking out the current spring as it is overpowered... mine is a fully functional Blaster and it comes with a couple of barrel variations. I have an LS original moded to look like a pulse rifle, but a crazy friend of mine stuck a monster spring inside it and built a custom barrel for me a while back. Essentially its a pipe coming off a recon front... Going to put a traditional 7kg spring back inside and remove the ridiculously long barrel. Should easily lower the FPS down to 100 or just a little over. I think with the extra long barrel and heavy spring I was getting darts downrange almost as effectively as my airsoft rifle... put it this way the darts were unusable after impacting something solid.

In its monster form it looks like a heavy sniper rifle but take down the super barrel and re-paint it and maybe add some decals and I have something more manageable.

Join the FB group. If you head over to the blog, you can follow some of my kit building that I'm currently engaged in. I'm rebuilding my entire rig because I can. Do note that I do kit building professionally through the company so don't take what I do as a standard. Essentially, you need stuff to make your character look awesome and that's pretty much it. My current green and DPM surge is the result of me playing a full character for the first time at Event 3 and the brief requires something a little special.

In terms of what's fun: everything. As I said above, I don't routinely play a character, I usually just pop in with the 109th as and when I'm needed. Usually, that sees me turning up on Sunday morning as a Heavy/Trooper with various roles. Its only been more recently that I got involved in the Military Police and have developed a more involved NPC. That said, my first tour of duty with the Directorate saw me execute someone via firing squad, recruit a shite tonne of new MPs, face palm as my IC boss (a certain General of repute) encouraged a random squaddie to take a mortar round he'd 'secured' from the supply train and stuff it in the mouth of a giant mechanised golem and I finished my tour assigned to Close Protection for one of the senior command personnel in the system. All because I was in the right place at the right time. The game is what you make of it, what you get out of it depends on what you put in. Saying "Ah fuck it" when the boss came along and asked if I wouldn't mind playing an MP Sgt led to some of the best fun I've had in a while (and some of the most heart wrenching. Fucking GUO and those Durgan Executions >.<).

It very much depends on what you're doing in terms of spending start skills. Being an NPC, I've never had that dilemma. Smile

Major_Khanage, if you asked OldNoob nicely, he'd be happy to chronograph your monster build (for a fee). We're always interested to see how the LS performs. Most GC stuff is in the 100FPS range, very few of us end up deep in triple digits.
OldNoob

Major_K, I will chrono your Longshot for free. All it will cost you is post. If you could put a pack of a Elite darts in there, I will fire them once then send them back.
My chrono sheet should be good enough for the scrutineer, as all the blasters used to be tested on it. I would be happy to put it up on the YouTube  site as well. If it's running 10kg or less on stock darts it will be legal for GC, even with a brass breech.

Hey all,

Just a quick note to say I will be hiring a car to get to GC on Friday 12th  and staying until Sunday. (as I am a central Londoner who has a flat with no parking and thus no car)

Just thought I would sound out if anyone else is doing something similar, if so i'm open to the idea of a carshare to save some dosh.

Anyone?
Boff

If you're able to do that, I think the best place to post would be the FB group. I know a couple of people are struggling for transport - particularly since rail strikes keep getting threatened (though they may have been called off by now).

EDIT: Well, fuck. I've been ordered to deploy this afternoon as MP Close Protection for the entire event which means I'm playing Event 2 rather than 3. I'll see anyone who's watching this thread on the field. I've posted kit pictures here. I can give blaster handling advice and maybe even train you on a variety of weapons that you don't have the skill points for if you're planning to learn them in the future. Just ask for Sgt Blake at the 109th camp. Smile
