GC1 After Action review

I'm currently lying in bed, unable to feel most of my body thanks to this event.
I started out as my previous character, a Sharked RS using heavy. Unfortunately, plans for the event meant I could only bring a single 35 drum and 18 mag.
The first engagement went as well as you'd expect it to with a 35 drum in play, with darts flying at monsters as fast as I could pound on the side of the drum. That character died off fairly soon, after spotting an opportunity to stab an IC enemy character in the back and getting executed after getting captured Very Happy
I created an Adept (space tech wizard) and returned to the fray, healing as many as possible. I found a set of a sword and 2 daggers served my character a lot better in this encounter - such is the way of things when you have the choice between a Hammershot and a sword/dagger combo that pushes you closer to the combat, but with the bonus of better damage output/blocking. The encounters, with an entire faction Monstering, proved testing, but rewarding to overcome.
Over the course of the next day, I was tested as a player, and as a character, more than I have ever been before. I was run ragged as a battlefield messenger, fought a Golem at close range that could decimate an entire faction in a few seconds, and saved more than a few character's from death. The climax of the day came in the mid-evening, when we fought a Tech-Dead (technologically created Zombies) swarm down the hill from the main camp area. There were at least 2 player deaths down there, but the pacing of the two encounters (golem and tech-dead) was perfect. It felt like the chaos of war.
Plot happened that pushed my RPing skills to their limit, involving an impromptu trial ending with their attempted execution and banishment, but the rest of the night was as uneventful as possible.

The next, and final morning, the Golem attacked again after I witnessed a brief trial and execution. It was wonderful seeing all the factions band together in an attempt to take this goliath down, although we eventually failed, and it escaped. I performed my first ritual, sacrificing the ability to use all firearms (I had no room on my kit for a holster anyway...) in exchange for a magic sword. A fair trade in my opinion, and I walked away with my life.
The final battle was... Amazing.
Executed by the Trinity Games team with brilliant pacing, I was assigned to close Medic protection, and proceeded to fulfil this task... Right up until we were attacked by gunmen on three seperate events. On all three events, I charged them, thinking myself to be in a group, only to go down and realise I had charged alone. I came too close to death twice (89s and 118s out of 120s respectively), but the gunmen had been rendered combat ineffective by my actions, and as such, I believe I succeeded.
The battle ended with a heart-wrenching moment where two members of my faction had to be executed as a result of deals made to bring them both back from death. Most of the GC players were moved to near-tears (with the exception of the snipers attempting to execute from range...), and the event ended with a suitably bittersweet victory.
This has to be one of the best events I can say I have ever been to, and I encourage all members of this forum interested in LARP to go to the next event, from June 12-14th.

This event was the most fun I've ever had at GC. As I've said in another thread, playing a bodyguard for the Colonel was awesome. I also join the General in charge of the TSA military police as a red cap during his recruitment drive and getting to be a generally power-tripping wanker of an MP was great fun. Executing a player by firing squad was pretty intense.

The final battle was epic. I was so happy when Enys got me and CarrierII to go be bodyguards for the Colonel. For the Nerfers among you, the 109th are largely a melee faction so having shooters as bodyguards made Col Whisper even more dangerous. The best bit had to be when I took a sniper round to the skull and went down. The boss sent a full med-evac team including close protection support to get my sorry arse back on the line. It was fucking awesome - I'm not a regular player but the boss put everything on the table to get me the fuck out of dodge. I'm so annoyed my camera stopped working. I would have loved to have shown you all the adventures of Sgt Blake as he tried to keep up with a melee fighter as fast as a whippet and as merciless as a hurricane. We brought the boss back alive but lost a lot of good people.

Speaking of med-evac, Josh4553, you owe me for that 118 stabilise. I hauled your arse up that hill single handed, even through the safety call and subsequent time in. Sorry if my yelling for a medic caused any temporary deafness. Razz

If you're thinking of heading to GC, I'd honestly recommend it. If you're just looking for a Nerf fight then £20 for a day ticket on the Sunday and you can drop in on one of the regiments and play a character. Alternatively, if you're up for being a faceless mook then try your hand at monstering over the course of the weekend free of charge. You'll be sent into a variety of different battlefield scenarios, it's great.

Finally, for other 109th players reading this - remember Kas' last words: "All come back". She'd only just learned to write her fucking name! Right in the fucking feels. I'm off to swallow this lump in my throat.

Poor Kaz. She was an amazing character. I remember the first time she licked me.

Shocked  Shocked  Shocked  Shocked

I think I'm missing something here, either that or I'm missing out. Laughing

Kas was a feral character played by one hell of a first timer. I assume the woman in question had been to theatre school or something because she was incredible.

Essentially, the character was entirely feral - raised by wolves sort of thing. She was starting to learn the language, was generally very adorable and affectionate. The 109th sort of adopted her as she explored the world in a very tactile and sensory fashion. That involved touching and licking things (including holstered blasters) and occasionally other characters. She died due to being caught out of position as a scout and we couldn't get her in time. She was resurrected temporarily by a daemon and her last words before we had to execute her (the alternative was dying in agony) were a broken English rendition of the regiment's motto "Everyone comes back alive!".

At least I remember the aftermath of the battle. Fucking head injuries fucking up the rest of my memory of it. I'd rather forget this stuff and remember the god-damned tactical stuff... Stupid bloody feels getting in the way! ¬¬

Nat does improv theatre around the town our Uni is in pretty regularly. She's damn good, as you saw Smile

I didn't know if this was another one of UKNWs weird things.....

Does that mean that Boff,Josh and CarrierII escaped the weekend without hugs?
Boff

UKNW tried to hug me, caused me a shit tonne of pain (due to rib injuries) and nearly got punched for his efforts. That answer your question?
4533josh

UKNW and I hugged a lot in his gazebo.

That is not an image I want in my head. Ever.

Also, you get better than a hug from me: I dragged your sorry arse to safety at the risk of violating my orders from my commanding officer. Had the Colonel gone down and CarrierII not covered her, both our arses would have been toast. You know what a sober Rossi does when he's pissed off? Neither do I and that scares me.

NB: You realise I'm going to keep reminding you of that, right? Razz

Well, I'll return the favour at some point by enchanting your helmet :p
Boff

Could you just get the refs to target the right Blastersmith next time? That shot that downed me was aimed at CarrierII. ¬¬

Is that a euphemism?

Boff, there was no sign stating that you'd been a prized doofus and managed to hurt yourself again. Also you had fair warning that there was some form of unsolicited physical contact inbound. My arrival should have been all you needed. Everybody knows that my arrival is closely followed by awkward hugs. Granted the run-up I took was a little frivolous but I was just so gosh darned excited to see you.

Photos from the event are up. I think this is everything, according to the team's excellent photographer, Ronnie.

I reckon I look pretty good in black and white.

UKNW, I don't tend to advertise when I've been wounded. Apart from the head injury and shoulder strain on the Sunday. That actually required immobilisation because of the swelling. I still have the sling, signed by lots of people. Very Happy

Here beginneth the 4th Anniversary caption competition!

"After the failure of his 180 RS, Boff resorted to threatening the Monsters with his imaginary dagger, forgetting he had designed a Firestrike pocket for this very situation."

"All that the rest of the squad could decipher of Boffs hand signal was 'large cake, 5m.' "

Boffs rendition of One Potato Two Potato had sadly failed as it failed to scare anyone.

.......and then there were 5 fat sausages sizzling in the pan.......

This thread is getting silly. :p This photo was taken while I was out of character in an in character area, hence my fist in the air. I was filming as an observer during a few camp attacks on Delmont as Ronnie was taking photos so I waved but am incapable of smiling in full combat gear, apparently. Very Happy

You may now resume your silliness. Smile
MarcusH

Boff was attempting to be Derek Zoolander but Blue Steel failed.
Boff

Yeah the Nerf version "Blue Plastic" doesn't quite have the same effect to it... Razz
OldNoob

"There it is....Magnus!"
That is all.

That is a bridge too far sir! How dare you impugn my honour! Razz

The five indicates the number of times CarrierII has had to take triakis away from GC for repairs?
Antonius

"I own 5 Deploys and they all work. Why?"

(If I keep this up Boff'll either ban me or come looking for me with a rapidshark! Razz )

Keep an eye on the coin........... Which Hand?......... Wrong! You lose!

Considering his head injury…

"George… George… George of the Jungle!"

Sure I've seen that guy before somewhere...

Back on topic, the fine folks at Trinity Games have just released a trailer from E1. Yes, that is a BSUK shield you're seeing there.

Event 2 details can be found in full here.
