Go pro

Anyone got and are they a good thing for our hobby some advice please. I'm looking at the hero3 plus.
Boff

I don't have a Go Pro but I do have an off-brand action sports camera that does essentially the same thing.

It's a great thing for filming certain aspects of the hobby, gun camera makes for some brilliant POV stuff. However, bear in mind you won't get amazing things from them because you'll be bouncing around and doing silly things so it won't be the steadiest of things. I moved mine from my blaster mount to my helmet for a steadier, first person aspect. With the correct editing and some third person shots thrown in for good measure, they could produce some brilliant advertising material for the hobby! Smile

I agree with Boff in that you don't really need to spend 300+ GBP on a GoPro. There are far less expensive alternatives.
oznerfnerd

Yeah,

I've got one, with all the fancy mounts on my trail bike helmet.

They're good but expensive for what they are.

Handling the buttons with gloves on is a drama...

My parents recently got a Go pro hero 3 silver and I love it gets great footage!
Franticblue

I guess but I do fancy the go pro h3 so much so I'm considering selling the crossbow to fund it.
bobtheman

how much would you sell the crossbow for?

EDIT

Please keep this on topic. If you'd like to make FB an offer to discuss the transaction, then drop him a PM.

If I decide to sell ? I'm not sure but I'd listen to good offers .

There is an excellent Sony one, which has many of the features and comes with better mounts. 4k HD is utterly pointless unless you have a very serious PC to edit it on and a 4k TV. Our stuff is all about frame rate, so 720p at 120frames/sec is your minimum standard. The sony also takes lenses and can be controlled from a smartphone. Go pro is a good camera, but bloody should be at that price. I will look up the sony one and post the link later.

I really should book a couple of GoPros out seeing as I have access to them and all of the mounts. could do some cool zom POV stuff with the head mount as well as the chest mount.

Check out this vid we made from GoPro footage of last semester's game.

Ah a good pc could be a problem my dell laptop has been playing me up of late, does it come with editing software?
ScoutsIX-3

Yeah, they have a free video editing program.

I used the free windows program for years, nothing wrong with it for basic stuff. The problem is the massive file sizes made by HD video, even in MPEG 4. That is where performance can suffer, especially in capturing and rendering. Laptops are usually worse for video as they have very limited space for hardware.
SSGT

You'd be surprised what even an old laptop can do!

As I type I've got a stupid number of tabs open, am running a fairly intensive 3D CAD modelling/stress analysis program, alongside a PIC programming suite and some PCB design software whilst streaming some tunes via youtube (HD of course Razz), with windows media player idling in the background and paint and adobe reader open whilst hooked up to a second display.

It's definitely not a rocketship either. It's a 5 year old Fujitsu SIEMENS AMILO Li3710 (from back when Fujitsu and SIEMENS were a partnership and Vista was the latest OS) with only an early Pentium dual core (2.16GHz T3400). Razz

It's been fettled a little over the years (upped to 4 gigs of RAM from 2 and added USB 3.0 ports, an SSD a new WiFi card and Win8) with the occasional bit of internal maintenance (mainly dust clearing, and removing a bug that had crawled into the LCD screen, and then died right in the middle of it, over Christmas Razz) but the basic hardware is still pretty capable.

I've never had too many issues with video editing on it and it only really fails when it comes to graphics intensive gaming. The integrated GPU is pretty pants and can't be replaced (and is running some dodgy outdated drivers to keep everything running smoothly). I'll probably keep the thing until it dies, if that ever happens (it has been dropped quite a few times and still going strong). I just like it too much, I've almost grown fond of the damn thing. Razz

As for GoPro I couldn't justify paying that much myself. Not with the other options available, and not just for a single hobby. If I did a few extreme action sports it might be a more worthwhile investment.

Sony Camera

There is the previous AS15 as well, although it's less well spec'd. What I liked was the inbuilt stabilisation , which will certainly be a boost for Nerf.
We had Fujitsu Siemens laptop for work, it was pretty good, even ran Cubase. Most displays are still not 4k either, and the frame rate is slow.
