Grim Up Nerf 6, 11th June

We're running a bit late on announcing the next GuN event due to holidays etc, but...†

Grim Up Nerf 6, Saturday June 11th, 1pm until 4pm, Farsley ‎

Hard to beilive that 6 months ago we hadn't met, and now here we are planning on trying out some new game types, and revisiting previous popular ones at our 6th public Nerf war. Not only that but we'll be having a gear swap & sell table, giving you a chance to bag a bargain and pick up older or additional blasters and tacictial gear. Bring your excess and unused blasters to sell.

Date and Time
Saturday 11th June 13:00 - 16:00†

Location
The war will be located at the Church of the Latter-Day Saints chapel, at Priesthorpe Rd, Farsley, Pudsey, West Yorkshire, LS28 5RD.

Cost
All attendees are invited to contribute the princely sum of £1 towards darts, materials etc so that we can keep doing it! Please feel free to bring something to contribute to a communal snack bar, boxes of mini donuts or flapjack seem to go down a treat!†

Loaner Blasters
There will be a selection of springers and flywheel blasters at the event. After signing in, you will be directed into the main hall where you will be helped to choose a suitable blaster.

Games
Expect a variety of new games, and some old favourites like Predator and HvZ. Game rules will be explained before each round.†

Safety and Behaviour
1 - We expect blasters to be in original or brightly coloured schemes, with an orange tip. I.e. nothing (weapon or clothing) to alarm the locals or other building users. We wonít be slowing down to assess performance so if youíre primary is modded and there is any chance it might be judged as over powered make sure you have a backup on hand.
2 - We will be providing ALL Koosh/Elite darts to be used at the event. If your blaster requires a different dart type, such as discs, mega darts, or missiles, you are expected to provide these yourself. No FVJ's are allowed.
3 - Eye protection is required and some will be provided, glasses users do so at their own risk.
4 - Anyone under 18 requires parental permission, and under 16's require a chaperone. Consider it an excuse to get your dad or mum playing.
5 - Between games you are expected to help recover and reload darts. Weapons must be holstered, slung, or placed on tables in an unloaded state between games.
6 - If it's not your's, don't touch it without asking
7 - Any abusive, threatening or rascist behaviour won't be tolerated.
8 - By attending, we consider this acceptance of the above rules, and your acknowledgement that Nerfing is not without risk, and that you are playing under your own will, and will not hold anyone else liable for any injuries that occur. 9 - And above all else, it's only a game, have fun, and donít be a silly billy!‎
old_man_nerf

We have some plans and a few new ideas to try out. Bring your blasters and your friends (we'll provide the darts) and be prepared to be introduced to the grim up Nerf way of doing things! Fast, furious foam flinging fun Smile
Tanithlord

Trying to book this off now Smile have a few blasters that im getting ready for a Larp system that i would like to Run Smile

Not that Im waiting for a Lipo or anything Smile hehe

Also may have a +1 but will keep you up dated

James
Dustybin

I will be able to come (I think) and I might be bringing a friend. I will also be bringing cookies because everyone liked those! I might need to borrow some mag holders because my duck tape stuff is giving up and my BSUK stuff is being stitched.
Justajolt

Your cookies set the bar high last time... I'm going to get some going on too this time round!
Dazzle740

Myself and TBR will be there, we've both been making various tweaks after GuN 5 and are looking forward to the 11th.

See you all there.

I'll be doing a Morrisons run before hand any requests food/snack wise ?
old_man_nerf

Judging by how quickly the kids (and adults) hoovered everything up last time I'd go for quantity over quality Smile

Any buscuits, cookies and cakes are gratefully received and devoured!

Be great to see you both again.
Dazzle740

Well seeing as their was only 2 donuts left from 3 boxes, 1 each of donuts, cookies and flapjacks I'll double it this time lol.
blindgeekuk

Tick, tick, BOOM!

Justajolt

They look fantastic!!
Davera

Those bombs are brilliant. You could even add a timer onto them, and then if the timer goes off before its put in the enemy base the attacking team loses.
blindgeekuk

Original plan was just to have 1 red one for the volleybomb game type SBNC have come up with...

But I couldn't resist doing a blue one as well to give us more options

Pool noodle cut into about 15cm lengths, Devcon'ed together (only thing in the house that would stick them), rubber cord for the wick hot glued inside, and then wrapped in thick black tape (might be replaced by duct tape)
tbr

I've got a camera your welcome to use (you can never have enough camera's), it would probably be simpler if you can supply your own micro SD card, or I can upload the footage where ever you want afterwards.

blindgeekuk

As luck would have it, I bought an extra SD card by accident, so i'll take you up on that offer!

So Justajolt's youtube schtick is blaster abuse with imr's and axes... But Grim Up Nerf's youtube schtick will be multi angle footage!
NorthernWarrior

I might be coming if I can drag my Dad along  Cool  Sad

!!! BIG NEWS !!!

We have a different venue this month.

For this months event, we'll be at the Farsley Latter Day Saints chapel. This is located at Priesthorpe Rd, Farsley, Pudsey, West Yorkshire, LS28 5JR

This is located about halfway between the new roundabout at Rodley, and the big roundabout near the Asda/Marks & Spencers. Note, the chapel is literally next to the junction of Priesthorpe Road, but you cannot turn right into it if you are coming from the Bradford direction - either go through Farsley or down to the Rodley roundabout and come back on yourself (its the second on the left from that roundabout).

For those coming from further afield, this venue is more to the leeds side of bradford, about 6 miles / 20 minutes further on
Tanithlord

Vagabond

Any one got a Vagabond they will be bringing that i Can test fire please Smile
NorthernWarrior

nope, i was thinking about getting one doe  Confused sorry, might be bringing down lightly modded demolisher if that helps
blindgeekuk

Welcome to the forums NorthernWarrior

We have a huge array of blasters as loaners NorthernWarrior, so plenty for you to try. If you do bring your own, make sure its named... both myself and tanithlord use Demolisher's - mine is called Bertha, and is a bit of an infamous beast on the forums... Smile

We don't have many rules - obviously if your under 16, we need a responsible adult to be on site with you - they don't have to join in, but we find those that do have a blast.

Wear eye protection, though we provide this

If you use any special ammo (demolisher missile for example) bring your own, all Nerf darts are provided though, so don't bring them

Theres some forms to fill in, either on the day, or even better, use the ones on www.grimupnerf.co.uk, print them out, fill them in, and bring them with you.

ION Air pro...? I bet it's mountable in everything with a torch mount... I feel a gun cam coming on...

Edit:
Wow! Just looked this up... It's an expensive bit of kit!

I got it for just under £50 in a sale a couple years back.

I enquired with blastersmiths about them making a camera mount to do exactly this, he said yes but the footage could look pretty poo, so I left it for now. Also I'm working on a secret project. (Trying to get it finished before GuN)
blindgeekuk

Yeah, gun cameras suffer from the 'flywheel whining noise effect' or the 'priming rattles it around everywhere effect'

I got a handheld gimbal, not a stupidly over priced gopro one... but even on a cheap one, I took some footage of me wandering around the housing estate following the kids with gimbal and camera in one hand, and camera in the other, and it made an obvious difference

New venue is bigger inside and out - whereas tong has an entry area, corridor and main hall, and a couple of side rooms. Farsley has 2 corridors, a bigger entry area with less exits, a bigger hall, a stage, LOTS of side rooms.

Outside, we'll have a bigger car park, more field space, a hill etc. It doesn't have full 360 degree access around the building unlike Tong

Be good to have some more quality war footage,
I reckon Jangulars and FDT's are the top end at the moment, but im already liking the GuN stuff, multi cam stuff sounds ace.
Justajolt

Many of the side rooms are connected too!
Franksie

Just driven past GuN territory this evening and it's only a couple of hours away.  I'll try to attend a war with you guys soon!
NorthernWarrior

blah
NorthernWarrior

i meant entry, not to buy it lel, can't come this coming weekend so I'm coming July †Crying or Very sad

EDIT

Spelling and grammar are required on this forum. Please ensure your post is correct before posting ON

blindgeekuk

Grim Up Nerf events always have plenty of blasters that people can use. In terms of cost, our events are free, we simply ask that everyone who plays donates a £1 towards the darts that need replacing... I had to buy 600 new darts this month, and i'm slightly concerned they aren't going to arrive in time

Edit: in other news, pool noodle bombs have the aerodynamic properties of a brick...
Justajolt

Address of new venue is:

Priesthorpe Rd, Farsley, Pudsey, West Yorkshire, LS28 5RD

by the way!
blindgeekuk

Sat nav for ls28 5rd put me on a turning on the other side of the main road, whereas ls28 5jr is for the houses down the hill from the chapel

Edit:

Dustybin, tbr/dazzle740, Tanithlord, are you guys aware of the new location? Worst case scenario, get to gooutdoors in pudsey and we'll come and find you

Seiryuu are you coming and do you need transport?

Can you try and bring a pistol, single shot ideally, but anything up to triad/messenger is ok. We'll have loaners in case. We might try a pistols only, limited darts round

tbr, do you need to borrow some IMR's again?
Tanithlord

Hey guys my friend fell over in the most amazing way last night, And he was not even drunk, unfortunately be injuries his ankle. So I will be travailing up on my own Saturday but i will be there Smile
blindgeekuk

I can emphasise, "no cause ankle busting falls" are one of my trademarked special moves thanks to my eyesight... Smile

We'll see you there on Saturday, are you bringing the giant shield again?
Dazzle740

Yeah myself and TBR are aware of the new location, as far as needing to borrow IMR's again I cannot say but I'll let him know you asked the question unless of coarse he reads this posting before I see him next.
Seiryuu

I'll probably be working again. It's festival season now.
tbr

blindgeekuk wrote:

Ive got some now thanks so should be fine Smile
Tanithlord

I have seen the new place had a sneaky Google and looks good to me and yes riot shield can be with me Smile
Justajolt

I'll bring a riot shield too! It's one of my favourite bits of kit now! (Thanks OMN!)
Tanithlord

Also pistol round fine by me Smile but may have to use my new pistol Smile
tbr

Ooh pistol round, I can use the firestrike I've just finished painting Smile good timing!
Dazzle740

Need to pull my finger out lol, still lots to do and running out of time, mods and painting !!!!
blindgeekuk

I'm like that... no mods to do, but haven't charged anything yet, though my excuse is i've been busy at work

it's looking like this month is going to be mostly people who have been before, and mostly people with their own gear. As such my loaner box will be change to mostly modded gear: rampage rather than raider, newly springer slingfire etc

We've got lots of new or tweaked gametypes to take advantage of the much bigger venue, which should work well given the people attending have some war experience and are older/sensible*

We'll see you there, 1300, sat 11th...

* with the obvious exception being justajolt Smile
Dazzle740

Oh crap never thought of that lol, must make sure all batteries charged lol
old_man_nerf

As Adam says, I've been busy reworking some of the games to include the 'Aussie rules' and thinking about how we can use the much bigger space we have.

Be prepared to run, bring some sun cream (hopefully we'll need it), and get tacticool Smile
Dustybin

Sadly, due to my dad digging holes for a new boiler, I will not be able to attend GuN 6. You will have to live without the southerner strategies and the green titan.
blindgeekuk

Gutted!

Have a good weekend, you and your awesome intregrations will be missed, as will the cookies, and your Dad who gets stuck in. See you at GuN7
Justajolt

We'll miss you, Dusty!
blindgeekuk

Just a heads up, we are still on tomorrow despite all the rain. If it stays dry/light drizzle, we'll be using the outside area, so you might want to pack or loan a springer if you're a a member of the flywheel master race. If the rain gets too heavy, we'll be putting the venues interconnecting rooms and corridors to the test, with some close quarters blasting.

See ya on the flipside.
Dustybin

Good luck for tomorrow. I am still really annoyed that I can't come.
Seiryuu

So, no titans today, sorry guys. Got festivals to attend with work.
Justajolt

See you all there! Heck yes!
BaylissLad

Have fun!
Justajolt

That was fantastic fun as always, guys!

I loved tbr's super-tech Hyperfire! Seriously... it has wifi! As him about it ^_^

A few new faced we hadn't seen before, including a firearms officer, who seemed enthusiastic to get into modding.

I'm sure the others will add more, and this is just a quick post because I'm heading off again soon, but  the new venue was lots of fun and I enjoyed Black Kes Down and having a little further to run. It was interesting having larger areas of play outside the building. Most of the action from my perspective seemed to take place there.

My Hyperfire provided rapid ROF when needed (and shaken lots to stop it jamming) but didn't seem to do much that my rapid pistol couldn't have done. Plus my RP doesn't jam as much. I'm dead happy with my new rig as well, to be revealed over the next few weeks!

I used a cheap £7 head mount for my regular camera. I'm very pleased with the footage and the value for money!
BaylissLad

Glad you had a fun time!
Tanithlord

Was a totally amazing day all round, even if i'm am just sat on the sofa with my legs screaming at my for all the running, Must have been the amount of times I Almost get just a jolt in zombies.

Love the new location have a lot of good cover and space, and i found even the long corridor was not straight so was hard to just run down.

Loved running my swarm fire as it responsive and has a good rate of fire and to say how old it is has some distance to it.

James
old_man_nerf

My fitness tracking app had a busy afternoon working out how far I'd run Smile

Glad it was worth coming up for. Bguk and I had a little review of things on the way home and have some ideas on how we can improve for the next event. It takes a little while for us to understand the dynamics of the space we are playing in and design games accordingly. Stick with us - it'll get better!
.
blindgeekuk

Another great afternoon, albeit a warm overcast one

Attendance was 19, 3 new families, including a police firearms officer. The blackpool were back again, with some tweaked hardware (like justajolt said, tbr knocked it out the park, even if the hyperfire was a let down), as was Tanithlord, rocking a stryfe that absolutely screamed on AA's and a swarmfire that was still competitive

We'd use the venue a few months ago for a youth event, but didn't really understand the venues quirks in advance. It's big, it's got a lot of outdoor space, but internally, it runs a VERY fast venue, with no real bottlenecks. There's a few places where the combat intensified, but they are very different places compared to the Tong venue.

On the whole, I was a little disappointed, there were a few things that we could have done better, even though it was a good event. We're be going over the games and rules, and layouts and tweaking them to get even better games.

Game 1 was Lockdown/Freezetag. Bertha absolutely dominated this. The fire rate, range and accuracy were an totally unfair advantage. Tried out a 3d printed jungle clip solution... Yeah, that didn't work...

Game 2 and 3 were the chance to try out Black Kes Down. And boy it WORKED! I had switched down to the EAT and started on the insurgents team. We split off, one group heading to block the Special Forces from reaching their extraction target. Two of the special forces headed into the carpark, the others dashing down the corridor. Queue a trading of darts as Justajolt and one of the dads moved between the cars. Can I just say I love the EAT. It performed perfectly and I tagged one out, while Justajolt got past me but was tagged further round.

Me and I think Dazzle headed round to their spawn to pincer them in the corridor, again, a trade off of darts and Old_man_nerf's son got me as we both moved from the corridor into the main hall thru different doors.

I got revived, and managed to tag two of the Special Forces as they moved into the hall. One left to tag, and I saw him dash past me heading towards a tagged teammate, only to get caught by tbr (I think)

We played another round, and I choose to be Special Forces, going back to Bertha. Whereas the previous team tried to rush, we casually strolled into the building, splitting into teams of two to cover all 3 directions towards out target. I got tagged in some furious shooting at the entrance to the hall, but was quickly revived by my team mate, Dazzle. We crossed into the corridor, taking a stolen riot shield with us, which proved to be a life saver. We moved down the corridor, clearing out pockets of resistance, and got to the corner of the building. Two more opposing team tags, and there was a dash across the field as one of the kids on our team sprinted past, collected our target from her bbq bunker, and sprinted back up the corridor to win!

I took a chance to marshal for a few rounds, and we tried a couple of rounds of plant the bomb. Couple of issues here. The bomb locations were too easy to get too, and on a venue that size, we needed two marshals, one watching each bomb location.

Into some HvZ. The first round seemed to go quickly. The second round, we opted for 'pistols' only. I used the sledgefire... I think justajolt was pushing the definition with his barricade... the humans played this round well, with natural groupings watching each others backs. I got tricked and turned into a zombie by Tanithlord. And then took a tumble down the slope when I overshot a humans and slid on the wet grass.

All in all, it was another really enjoyable day. There's some things we can improve, but we hope those who had to travel still enjoyed it.

Gearwise, i'm still taking too much! Bertha and eat were perfect. Hammershot still isn't right and i'm not getting the range I should be. Jungle clips were a failure. My reloading sucked, the mag pouch didn't...

There were various people suffering jams today. I certainly was, always on elites
Dazzle740

My second GuN (GuN 7) and again very enjoyable. Tried a couple of new games this time as mentioned above.
The black hawk down rounds were enjoyable and fun although the second round with the more evenly matched team numbers was the better of the two.
HvZ fun as always but my boot laces coming undone in the first round let me down (was doing well until then lol) the second round as pistols only, great fun.
Also the place the bond rounds were both over very quickly, but this was down to the different logistics of the different location I think.

All round another highly enjoyable day and roll on GuN 8!!
NorthernWarrior

Sounds good, definitely coming next month  Very Happy
tbr

I would love to write a post detailing all the cool stuff I got up to at GuN, but all I can really remember is that I did lots of running around while shooting at people Smile

If someone could send me the info I can share the footage I took on my phone/Hyper-Pi-Fire (As I've christened it)
blindgeekuk

PM your email address andi'll add you to the footage folder

I hope you got more usable footage than I did though. Everything was either badly positioned, out of focus, or not working!
tbr

Just a note, I still have two small marks on my chest from close range justajolt barricade shots! Smile
NorthernWarrior

this is why I'm bringing my tac vest Wink gg
