Grim Up Nerf 9, Sat Sept 10th, 12:30-5:00pm, Farsley

The summer sun has gone away, the rain is back and here to stay... Proving its once again "Grim Up Nerf"! We've actually had the date for this one set in stone for 6 weeks, so its time to announce whats happening!

Grim Up Nerf 9, Saturday September 10th, 12:30pm until 5:00pm, Farsley

For September's event, we're doing another month at Farsley, our bigger venue, with its dual corridors, central hall area, side rooms, and huge outside area. With several events here under our belt, we know how its faster paced play style works, we know its secrets and its killzones. And this month we'll be putting them to good use...

Like previous months, depending on the player makeup on the day, our times will change. We're opening slightly earlier, at 12:30 for registration, and diving into games quicker, with them starting around 13:00. However, if we have a lot of adults, we'll be finishing these at around 15:00. These games will be our simpler and popular types such as Lockdown and Infection, though expect our usual Grim Up Nerf fun tweaks to these!

From 15:00 onwards, we will be running 13+ games using more advanced rules. The usual rules will still apply regarding under 18ís needing to have a responsible adult on site at all times to ensure there are no child protection issues. Theses game will finish around 17:00.

Please remember, our loaner box has changed - we'll only be bringing front-loaders, such as the Strongarm or Hammershot, and some Rebelle blasters.

IMPORTANT NOTES
1. We had reports from the chapel about people smoking at last months event. This is not allowed, and seriously affects our ability to run the events. If you smoke, don't do it on the premises. Offenders will be asked to leave. Consider this a final warning!
2. Standards of behaviour between rounds, and during game explanations has dropped. Consistant offenders will be asked to leave. Consider this a final warning!

Date and Time
Saturday 10th September 12:30 - 17:00 †

Location
The war will be located at the Church of the Latter-Day Saints chapel, at Priesthorpe Rd, Farsley, Pudsey, West Yorkshire, LS28 5JR.

Cost
Grim Up Nerf is free to attend, but all attendees are invited to contribute the princely sum of £1 towards darts, materials etc so that we can keep doing it! Please feel free to bring something to contribute to a communal snack bar, boxes of mini donuts or flapjack seem to go down a treat! †

Loaner Blasters
There will be a selection of front-loading springer blasters at the event. After signing in, you will be directed into the main hall where you will be helped to choose a suitable blaster.

Games
Expect the return of Android and the Grim Up Nerf version of Trouble in Terrorist Town: Luddites int' Cotton Mill, along with favourites like Lockdown and HvZ. Game rules will be explained before each round. †

Safety and Behaviour
1 - We expect blasters to be in original or brightly coloured schemes, with an orange tip. I.e. nothing to alarm the locals or other building users. We wonít be slowing down to assess performance so if youíre primary is modded and there is any chance it might be judged as over powered make sure you have a backup on hand.
2 - We will be providing ALL Koosh/Elite darts to be used at the event. If your blaster requires a different dart type, such as discs, mega darts, or missiles, you are expected to provide these yourself. No FVJ's are allowed.
3 - Eye protection is required and some will be provided, glasses users do so at their own risk.
4 - Anyone under 18 requires parental permission, and under 16's require a chaperone. Consider it an excuse to get your dad or mum playing.
5 - Between games you are expected to help recover and reload darts. Weapons must be holstered, slung, or placed on tables in an unloaded state between games.
6 - If it's not your's, don't touch it without asking
7 - Any abusive, threatening or rascist behaviour won't be tolerated.
8 - By attending, we consider this acceptance of the above rules, and your acknowledgement that Nerfing is not without risk, and that you are playing under your own will, and will not hold anyone else liable for any injuries that occur.
9 - And above all else, it's only a game, have fun, and donít be a silly billy!‎
NorthernWarrior

Ha ha, still can't believe this falls on my birthday
blindgeekuk

In which case, cake!

A note on Special Farces: this is causing issues, so i'm knocking this game type on the head and I won't be running it at any Grim Up Nerf event.
tbr

Well after two months of not being able to attend, I'll finally be back for this..... must get my current blaster finished in time! Interested by the new over 13's games, glad this is based on physical age not mental or I wouldn't be able to play Smile
Justajolt

It'll be great to see you again, TBR! And everyone I missed last month due to travelling! Looking forward to see you all there ^_^

Physical age determines what blows you can take without harm. There's a logic to using that over mental age.
Justajolt

What if you're mentally scarred?
Andrew_Aitchison

Guess who just found out they are coming!!

Then the lawsuits are harder to file.

Dustybin

I doubt that I can attend this one, 3 Nerf wars is too much to attend in 3 weeks. At least this way, my 10th Nerf war will be GuN 10.
NorthernWarrior

Dammit, im not going to be at GuN 10.
Andrew_Aitchison

If anyone wants an 8 shot cylinder or anything else, I could bring orders to GuN and save shipping costs. I made a GuN option on my store.
old_man_nerf

Busy building something a bit special for this event - if it works it'll be a blast(er) Smile

BlindgeekUk - perhaps we can poll the attendees regarding our discussions and get some other opinions in the mix from the player base?
Seiryuu

Wait, no special farces? Aww, wanted to get some serious bowmanship in.
bigal123

Going to try and get along to this one, shall start to try and put a plan together, looking forward to it Very Happy
Justajolt

Looking forward to seeing you, BigAl!
blindgeekuk

I've just built another 2 bombs in each colour, so expect some more complex bomb related game types
Tanithlord

I will be there but I'm on holiday so I will be coming with limited kit. I will be rocking pistols and stryfe thats all.
blindgeekuk

Want any thing of mine to use Tanithlord? Lawbringer, doominator, pyragon, rotofury, slingfire?
Tanithlord

Im good thanks want to try running something Smile but thanks you anyway Smile
bigal123

If I turn up I should be bringing a tonne of fun with me so there will be plenty of blasters to go around if you fancy a change between games Very Happy
Dazzle740

As TBR said after having to miss the last two GuN events I am highly looking forward to this !!!
blindgeekuk

Having had a chat with Justajolt yesterday, and going over the suggested melee revisions from Old_Man_Nerf (see update on the Special Farces thread), I think we are good to go, and thus run Special Farces as a 13+ gametype next weekend.

I'll be bringing additional kit for this:
Pyragon
Diatron -all locks removed
Lawbringer -spring upgrade
Doominator -sping upgrade, rotation lock removed
Slingfire -spring upgrade
Rampage -spring upgrade, AR removal
Thunderblast
Bigshock
Rotofury -spring upgrade
2 Riot Shields
Havok Fire -IMR's
Fearless Fire -IMR's
EAT - spring upgrade, AR removal
Guardian Crossbw -spring upgrade

The mission type will be an outdoor/indoor one, with the attacking Special Farces team starting by the main gates, and they will have to contend with exterior guard patrols, interior security systems, defense turrets, hostages, bombs and intel gathering. Teams will be timed, and scored based on how many alarms they trigger, how many team members they lose, etc.

While we won't have melee weapons in game, we are hoping to have a few on hand so players can have a go with them at their own risk
tbr

AAAAARRRRRRGGGHHH!!!!!

I've only a week to finish my blaster!!!! Still need to finish the paint job and do ALL the internals.....

....this is going to be cutting it fine.
bigal123

Hotel booked Very Happy Should be all five of us coming down, myself, my other half and the 3 kids. Driving straight down on the Saturday morning so will be a bit of a mad rush but should make it in time, looking forward to it. I'll look out some funny Scottish bank notes especially for Jolt Very Happy
blindgeekuk

We're looking forward to welcoming you back Al!

What are you modding TBR?
tbr

It's a stryfe, but that's all I really want to say till it's done, nothing earth shattering but I don't want to show/say anything when it's half finished. (Plus if it all goes wrong you'll never know Smile )
Dazzle740

I've seen TBR's latest creation and if he pulls it off to a standard he is happy with it will be a very nice stryfe indeed lol!!! But he is his own worst critic lol!!
blindgeekuk

At the moment, I'm struggling to decide what kind of Special Farces loadout i'd use

I could use Bertha, which would be Semi Auto, Explosives, and something else, probably First Aid

I could go something funky, like Pyragon and Rotofury, so Exotics, Hgh Calibre, Weaponsmith

Or I could use old faithful, my EAT, and simply take Rifles, which gives me 2 skills slots to support my team....

Damn me and my tempting ruleset...
Seiryuu

Pyragon would need Extra Ammo, no?

I'll be running Weaponsmith and High Calibre for my composite Nerf bow, not quite sure what I'll run secondary yet as, while the Special Farces rules do supposedly allow BOOMco I'm not totally convinced that'll be ok with GuN still and, even if it is, is the Whip Blast going to be a better secondary than the Wildfire? Do I even want to run either?
blindgeekuk

You get 75 rounds of standard ammo, and discs come under standard (1 hit). Pyragon needs Exotics to let you fire discs, and Weaponsmith as it's not covered by pistols, semi auto, rifles, full auto, shotgun.

OK, some additional Special Farces info for this event:

Doors not marked 'DO NOT ENTER' are available to be used. If they are closed, they are considered Locked
Locked doors can be opened by players with Shotguns, Lockpicking, or Explosive & Demolitions
Bombs can be diffused by players with the Engineering skill

Special Farces Teams:
Teams are any number of players up to 4 team members - if you want to try going Lone Wolf, it's worth more points.
You have 10 minutes to complete the mission
You start at the lower gate, your extraction point is the rear car park
You mission is to rescue a hostage from within the building and extract them safely.
There are additional side missions to defuse bombs and retrieve intel
Special Farces team members wear blue bands

Luddites:
Any players not in the Special Farces is considered a luddite.
Luddites follow the standard 2 hit rule. After the second hit, they go down on one knee and count to 30. If they receive First Aid in that time, they are restored to 2 hits, and can carry on playing. If they are not healed within 30 seconds, they are considered to be dead and lay down.
2 luddites have the First Aid skill - these wear red bands
Luddites can use any type of weapon and can carry the normal ammo (75/24/3)
1 luddite must act as the hostage and be rescued
A minimum of 2 luddites must patrol the outside of the building
A minimum of 2 luddites must patrol the interior corridors
Luddites can open locked doors
Luddites can choose where to hide the 6 bombs, and whether blue or red bombs are active
Luddites can choose where to hide the Intel case. The intel case contains a band of the colour for which bombs are active.

Scoring:
Special Farces start with 100 points
They lose 10 points for each minute (rounded down) it takes to complete the mission
They lose 10 points for each team member killed
They lose 10 points for each active bomb that is not diffused
They lose 20 points if the hostage is killed
They gain 10 points per bomb defused
They gain 10 points per luddite killed
They gain 20 points for recovering the Intel
They gain 20 points if all team members extract at the end of the mission
They gain 10 points for each team member that has not lost a life
They gain 50 points if they are doing it in Lone Wolf mode
Dazzle740

This game type sounds interesting, roll on the weekend!!!
blindgeekuk

Not sure if other 'natural' groupings are having as much fun as the GuN organizers are at designing a squad... we've put forward possible builds, highlighted weaknesses, rebuilt squads, redefined peoples roles... Loving it!

Things went wrong so the paint job has pivoted in a grungy direction. Smile
LordSparrow

Will probably attend with a few mates. Could anybody loan me a few mega darts? it seems that i have run out and my budget will not allow any of the fine toysrus ones. About 12 should do, im only running a magnus and cycloneshock, both modded, would be happy to loan these to people.
blindgeekuk

We do have some vortex discs and mega darts that can be used. If you are bringing your own, it's worth marking them in some way

Welcome to the forum, we look forward to meeting you
old_man_nerf

@Seiryuu - PM function doesn't seem to be working at the moment but in answer to your question a lift is fine. I'll send you some suggested meeting up points tomorrow.
LordSparrow

Also, do you allow socks?
blindgeekuk

LordSparrow wrote:

Of course, otherwise my shoes hurt!

On a more serious note, yes, a couple of the youngsters use sock grenades with limited success

1 DAY TO GO!

Remember the doors open at 12:30 to players. The sooner you're he here, signed in, and kitted up, the sooner we can get games going. We should have enough of an adult / child split this month to fully justify the kid friendly games finishing at 3, with 13+ Special Farces games until about 4:30.

Rules wil be explained between each game, helping with dart sweeps is mandatory, and we will be cracking down on use of closed doors and behaviour between games...

Direct hits only. None of this splash damage rubbish 😀
bigal123

This sounds like it's going to be a busy one, looking forward to meeting everyone, is anyone keeping track of numbers? Very Happy
old_man_nerf

We never really know how many till after the event because it's advertised in a number of different places.

I'm going to try and get a group photo at this one though so we can count up afterwards 😀

based on last months church families, local families, people who aren't on bitnerf but use our website, britnerf, and the leaders from the summer camp, we could feasible be in the high 40's this month

with just the britnerf lot, we'd be high 20's
FDT

Have a great one guys Smile

Thanks, I bought a pack of 20. Theres a neat little trick where you can put the rolled up sock on the pointy bits of you gun, such as the handle or magazine, so it can be easily used for a last resort type weapon if you dont have tim to get into cover and reload. Ill see you there my dudes.
bigal123

Howdy guys, we're running a bit behind schedule but are on the road but might not get there till after one, fingers crossed for no traffic problems, see you all soon. Very Happy
tbr

Is there going to be a Chrono there? I would very much like to see what my latest build is kicking out?
Franksie

Gutted I can't be there - roll on November!
blindgeekuk

Not sure if Justajolt is bringing his chrono, i hope so, I wanna chrono the 8 shot
Davidov

Have a good day comrades, and cross fingers for good weather for us down south who aren't organised enough to be indoors yet :p
old_man_nerf

Just picked up a rapid trek sentinel 😀

Firing well out of the box.

And just a jolt has confirmed he is bringing his chronograph.

Much excitement in our house for today!
NorthernWarrior

What a great day! Apart from my longshot died...
blindgeekuk

Full report later, but we think we had 60 ish players over the course of 4 hours, lots of new people, both via the church and via the local community, lots of returning GuN veterans

I have a new favourite game type, Freeze Tag with Zombies.

special Farces was... OK... needs a bit more work, needs players to actually have read the rules, and needs us to run it when not half dead

No voice now, should have used my megaphone
LordSparrow

Forgot to pack my pepsi and duct tape.  Sad  Sad  Sad  Evil or Very Mad

No idea who drank the Pepsi, but I have the duct tape. Apologies if you introduced yourself to me, today was a bit busy and I'm terrible with faces/names
old_man_nerf

That was semi organised chaos!

A lot of people which was great. Lots of cake which was excellent. Needs some work on kid/crowd control, which to be fair is hard when there are 60 over excited kids and adults all eager to shoot Nerf at each other.

Grim up Nerf continues to grow!
Dustybin

60 people?! You are big enough now to rival FDT for largest Nerf war in the UK (that I know of)! Seems like high rate of fire will be very useful.
bigal123

Yep, a very busy one and good fun. Thanks again guys for your hospitality we all throughly enjoyed ourselves and definitely worth the epic journey down for it Very Happy A quick overnight stay for us tonight and catch up with some family and home again tomorrow. I'll add my report later, cheers Very Happy
Boff

Post match analysis over here. Smile

EDIT

Fixed that wonky BB code for you. ON
