Integration Reinforcement

Does anyone use materials, or screws,  or bolts to reinforce integrations? Is it recommended or needed when using Devcon?
OldNoob

Depends on what you are integrating. If it's a blaster on blaster where the join will take the force priming, then some mechanical fixing is a good idea. I also try to make the glue surface as big as possible by putting fillets of sheet plastic behind butt joins to help. In my experience most epoxy putties have insufficient adhesion to ABS to provide structural strength.

Sorry to be a pain but could you explain a bit more about using plastic fillets? Or do you know where I find pics?
OldNoob

Instead of just pushing the two cut edges together with glue, I make a piece of 1.4mm styrene sheet to go behind it. Bond that first, let it set, then bond the full joint along the shell edge and to the sheet styrene. I think the technical term for that is a floating tongue. Example of sheet material join types. If you are doing a 90 degree bond then a filleted joint would look like this. which is how most nerfers make their joints with a gob of epoxy filler.

My pump longshot is gaining flying buttresses Laughing It's all getting a bit gothic.

Got it.  Thanks for explaining!
