My latest toys

I pulled the trigger on 50 of the red waffle X-tip darts from China which arrived yesterday.  Foam thickness is good, but the glue is only in the stem of the head and not around the edges, so it remains to be seen how long they last.  I'm not sure if they fly a fraction slower than Elites, but it could be my imagination. Can't complain for £2 though!  Assuming they last a reasonable amount of time I'll be ordering 200 more.

Last night I went to Smyths Toys to look at the Doomlands Persuader.  I actually took a sneaky dart with me and fired it down the toy isle - at that very moment I was sold.  I like the fact this blaster can be used with one hand - even the tiny Jolt requires two hands to prime it.

I also tried the Lawbringer which I really like the look of, but it was twice the price, 3 times the size and performance actually seemed worse than the Persuader.
OldNoob

Heavier darts will always fly slower than light ones, the X tip is 1.3g vs Elites or Koosh 1g. I have had a 5% failure rate with my 800 x tip.
You should check out the Rebelle 5x5 if you like one handed blasters!
Did you buy the persuader?
NerfNoob

Yes, I did read they are 0.3g heavier, and that they fly slower. When I fired them I thought they were slower, however I was already paranoid from what I'd read.  So I loaded one into one barrel of the Rough Cut and an Elite in the other barrel. Fired them at the same time and there was no noticeable difference in terms of which arrived at the target first (not very scientific I know, but it makes me think the difference is negligible).  I'm not running a flywheel which I think might be more cruel on the heads, so I'll see how they go.

Is the Rebelle 5x5 a rebranded Hammershot?

Yep, I bought the Persuader!  Unfortunately I'm swayed by how things look, and I don't really have the inclination to repaint a Rebelle blaster.  Although funnily enough my wife liked the Persuader but said she'd only want it if it was in girly colours, so the 5x5 might be of interest to her. Also I find the Persuader easy enough to prime one handed, but I can imagine someone with daintier hands would struggle.
OldNoob

5x5 is a slimmer more compact Hammershot! I don't care what colour it is and painting them isn't hard as they are smooth already.
I run some very serious flywheelers and they don't rip the heads off X Tip and more than anything else. The glue could be a little better but the price and performance makes them worth losing a few tips. Early Koosh were far worse and my latest batch from BW12 was terrible, I have removed them from my pool, 30% failure rate after 3 games.
The persuader will likely take a spacer mod, try a 6mm one and see.
NerfNoob

It's interesting you say that actually, because I am torn between paying double for 200 Koosh darts from BW12 or getting 200 more of the X Tip for half the price.  I was swaying towards the Koosh thinking they fire faster and the heads would be glued on more firmly.  However it sounds like the X Tip might be a safer bet.  Like you say, for the price, a 5% failure rate is worth it.

I was going to ask about a spacer mod for the Persuader, where can I buy a spacer? Or is it something you'd get from a hardware store?
OldNoob

We make them from scrap 15mm plastic plumbing pipe. PM me and I can post you a set, I have a few cut already from mods. The Dark Kitten also does them free to regular contributors.
SirBrass

The x-tips fly VERY well out of 180'd flywheel blasters, and still have excellent range. Out of my springers, I definitely lose about 5 to 10ft of range with them but I get reliable windage out of them compared to koosh gen 3. Despite the glue issue (I've noticed it as well), they hold up very well to being crushed & shot out by worker flywheels driven by blades on 2s.
NerfNoob

Well I shall be having a war this evening with my wife.  She has been winning a lot lately  Mad

If she wins tonight then I shall blame my new darts lol
Rab

Yeah, spacer works in the persuader, got mine up to 86fps with a very quick cut spacer. I find my persuader a little tricky to open the first time, i almost thought it was solvent welded but the shell is just a tight fit around the barrels just wedge it open slowly with a couple of flathead screwdrivers.
NerfNoob

Thanks for the heads up Rab, it was indeed difficult to open once the screws were removed, but I managed to gently get it open all around with a little patience.

Also thanks to OldNoob for the spacers which arrived this morning.  It was an absolute **** to get the spacer on!  Once on the rubber grommit at the bottom looked a little deformed - is this normal and anything to worry about?

Here's a picture:

Unfortunately I didn't take a photo before the spacer was added, but here's the spring compressed when primed after adding the spacer:

Rab

I think mine did the same, wouldnt worry.

I love the look of the persuader, just wish that grey bit didnt push off my knuckles.

I used mine at the last modshop to demonstrate how the trigger mech worked. Really handy those see through blasters 🤓
OldNoob

You can also put the spacer at the top of the rod, then add the mainspring. This is how I do all my HS and 5x5 ones now.
NerfNoob

Could anyone advise what the performance of the Hammershot is like compared with the Persuader?

After using it for a few days I've found the Persuader to be somewhat lacking in performance, even using a 6mm spacer, and also somewhat erratic.  It seemed great in the shop, but that was a long clear isle with no wind and nothing to compare it against.

I like the look of the Persuader more but I'm just not sure how practical it is other than for show.  Argos currently have the Hammershot for £16 which is double the price but I am considering it if the performance is much better.

I've also been using the X Tip darts the last few days and found their accuracy to be very good.  The range might be less but playing indoors this doesn't matter.  I've lost one head so far but have glued it back on!  I've ordered another 200 this morning.
Rab

Because the persuader uses a smart air restrictor power drops as you work your way down the barrels.

Hammershot benifits from a spacer too but it's a very popular pistol, you might as well buy it 😊

Yeah I gathered that, had the same issue with the Rough Cut not feeling very powerful, although I've grown to love it and it's now my favourite blaster (no messing around with clips).  But it does seem every blaster I buy is less powerful than the last  Mad

I have a Hammershot reserved at Argos that I might collect this evening. Not sure I can justify £16.99 for another blaster I don't need, but we'll see  Smile
Kleggt

Have a look around Shpock and Facebook Marketplace if you haven't already, if you're lucky there might be a second hand one near you. I really wanted one myself but couldn't justify Argos price, ended up finding one locally that was essentially free after selling of parts of the bundle I didn't want.

I've always had a soft spot for the Lawbringer but haven't hit the point where I want to buy one since I don't think they can be improved much performance-wise.
OldNoob

Rebelle 5x5 and Sweet Revenge are same internally as the HS in a slimmer profile.

Same, I love the look of the Lawbringer, especially with it being hammer action.  However, the barrel is completely superfluous as far as I can tell, and I suspected performance might not be great.  That's when I saw the Persuader and it persuaded me to buy it!

I kind of like the look of the Hammershot, I'm not so keen on the Rebelle lines, however my wife loves them and following your recommendation she now wants a Rebelle 5x5 or Sweet Revenge, but nowhere seems to sell them.  Home Bargains did have a 4 Victory last night, but that is also smart AR rather than rotating barrel, and in her words, "I don't want a feather duster" (her terminology for a blaster that lacks power).
OldNoob

I have had my last 4 Rebelle revolvers from Ebay or Amazon, £10 or less. There are some good dress to be had on Schpock and Gumtree as well. I rarely buy new, they are only going to get modded or painted or both!
Rab

The 4 vic, aint no duster. Packs an ok punch. Quite a few of the rebelle blasters hit slightly harder than their elite counterparts.  Messenger and spylight for example.

I love the lawbringer, so much Ive got 2 now! Crank up the power with a spacer just like the rest.
NerfNoob

Thanks both, I've passed the message on about the 4 Victory.

I've also seen a Rebelle 5x5 on Shpock for £7. I know what you mean about the Rebelle series, my wife has the Spylight and it's at least as powerful as my Strongarm but slam fires way better.

Please don't talk to me about the Lawbringer, I'm running out of space and money lol.

I'm now in possession of the Hammershot. I'll report back tomorrow...
