What do people want for Xmas!

Be as crazy and madcap as you want!

I'm struggling to think of stuff personally - theres nothing Nerfy I like the look of or need - brought it all myself Razz

Other hobbies its either too expensive (new camera) or would ruin my social life and turn me into a hermit (PS3)

Fire away!
oukie

Well I've just bought myself a new mountain bike, I need to get back into cycling as it's a good way to keep fit and fun at the same time, I invested in a quality high spec bike, it's a Cannondale SL1 29er, my old mtb had seen better days.

I'm not sure of anything else, I've already got a PS4 so I'm already socially inept. Laughing

Like the first post, there's nothing I really want as when I want something I buy it for myself and the Nerf things that interest me arn't out till next year unfortunately.

But I'm going to be asking for a couple kettle bells as I decided to do https://toughmudder.co.uk/  next May. (I must be mad)

Although thinking about it I would quite like a new longboard.

Nice one mate - doing my second TM in Scotland next June. First one was a breeze in 2013 but I've heard they added loads more mud this year slowing everyone down Sad

Good luck with the training Smile

Back on topic, I picked out a lovely Barbour jacket based on the one DC wore in Skyfall so that's up in the attic ready for my Xmas. My birthday is one week before so better get my thinking cap on for that - some of the recent Led Zeppelin reissues might well be on that list \m/
asman5

let me see
2X raven
2x rapidstrike
3X hammershot
1X the new mega revolver (name escapes me)
1x grand theft auto for PC
a bunch of various Lego sets
and a nismo pulsar would be nice too

Honestly? Cosplay materials/tools, LARP chainmail, and the rent for the year... I'm pretty much where I want to be in terms of Nerf at the moment.

Not hoping for much this year maybe a gift subscription for Hasbro entitling me to 1 of every Nerf gun past, present & future and a Kawasaki Vulcan S

Well I did say I was hoping

My birthday's also around the Christmas period (12 days after) and, being my 21st, will probably just sort of merge into one.

I've already got my new bike as an early present in May/June (so I'd have something half-decent to do the C2C on). It's a Trek 4700 (26er). Not quite as fancy a spec as oukie's but I liked it because the frame was an almost perfect fit, I like the more playful feel of 26" wheels (which are disappearing from mid-high spec hardtails) compared to 650b or 29" wheels and I knew I'd probably be upgrading components anyway.

I'd like a new laptop at some point (this thing is over 6 years old and was extremely low spec even at the time) but want to hold out at least until midway through 2015 to see if some of the supposedly "revolutionary" new components/standards/software take off (namely USB type C but Skylake processors with DDR4 RAM and Windows 10 too). If my cheap laptop has lasted me 6-7 years I'm aiming to keep whatever high-end laptop I get for ~10 years so I'd prefer if it didn't get left behind too quickly.

Ideally I'd like a decent metal-turning lathe and/or a multi-axis CNC machine but I doubt that'll happen. Likewise with a car. Razz

Like everyone else, I'm pretty much where I want to be with Nerf at the minute (with the exception of some shiny new BSUK kit Razz ) so, short term at least, I guess that leaves me with bike components. New fork perhaps (Rockshox Reba)? New brakes (SLX)? New wheelset (Hope Hoops with xm719 or ZTR Arch rims)?

My Christmas list:

1. Oukies Nerf Collection.
2. UKNWs Nerf Collection
3. Boffs Inventory.
4. Oldnoobs skills.

There is more, but I gotta remember who said what!

You're going to need our skills too, otherwise our inventory is just raw materials. Make to order, baby! Smile

Tech wise: Win10 isn't slated till September. Don't hold your breath. As for USB type C? If there are enough peripherals that suppostr it, it'll take off. Skylake isn't due till year end also. And as for RAM? Unless you're minted, and you use the computer for lots of gaming, I wouldn't bother too much.

Fixed that for ya BPN, in light of Boff's announcement!

I have 16GB of Corsair DDR4. I've never used more than 10, but it's nice to have that far off ceiling. It'll probably last me 5 years or so Very Happy
I kind of want SLI'd GTX 970s though...

Don't: you'll give UKNW ideas. Besides, it'd need to be a cage for the entire team.

That'd get pretty awkward pretty fast...
OldNoob

Just for you all.

You can have the source of my skills yourselves this Xmas

So BSUK in a cage and a Sledgehammer?

To make them fit? You calling them… husky… ? Razz

Also, looks like the trade off for ON's skills are a wonky mind… Razz

Like I say, I'm holding out to see if stuff will take off. I say till halfway through 2015 but, realistically, I can see that stretching to next Christmas or further (especially if the product introduction cycle of the laptops I'm looking at is anything to go by).

Although Win10 won't be around for a while I'd at least like to see a more finished version, and see how much it will cost, before getting a new PC. If it's going to cost £100+ to upgrade I'd prefer to wait and get a laptop with it pre-loaded. If it's release is anything like Win8 (with the £45 upgrade deal) I don't mind getting a laptop with 8.1 pro and upgrading the OS later.

USB type C interests me a lot, especially with the DisplayPort capabilities. I know VGA's slowly disappearing but a laptop without VGA (or a disc drive, but I can get around that) isn't that useful to me as practically every projector still uses it (and I'll be doing a hell of a lot of presentations). My main reason for waiting on type C though is the physical compatibility issues if it takes off. Yes I could use passive type C to type A adapters but I don't want to have to carry the damn things around. If I'm keeping this laptop for circa 10 years I don't want to feel left behind after the first year of owning it. Similarly I don't want a laptop with only type C ports again... because adapters.

Skylake and DDR4 aren't as important but I'd still like to see what happens with them in the meantime. If DDR4 is slow to take off I can get a laptop with less RAM and upgrade it later without having a huge price hike (I only got around to upgrading this laptop's DDR2 to 4GB when it had already become appreciably more expensive than DDR3).

Essentially, I'm just being cautious. I know you can't really future proof PCs per se, but I'm not going to get a new one if it's going to be left behind feature-wise less than a year or two after I get it (if this type C connector takes off like the hype suggests).

Whoops, don't know what happened there. Razz

Something about missing features and having to use annoying adapters probably...

Real Engineers find a way…

…usually by using about 75 different adapters plugged into each other…

For someone who doesn't know me, you really know me too well.....

I should have added world peace to my list too, but it's about as likely as winning the lottery whilst being struck by lightning at the same time as being trampled by a startled wooly mammoth.
MarcusH

Wow and I thought I was a tad mental.... Razz . I think a Brit Nerf mental asylum is required!

I thought scientists were working on revving the Wooly Mammoth but finding one in the back end of nowhere in Devon is unlikely Razz
OldNoob

You should see some of the local lasses, less unlikely than you'd think....

Well Boff does claim that civilisation ends in Bristol Razz
