This might be contentious but... I'd like to see a bit looser moderation. Not a criticism of the mods, they're doing a great job of policing the current policy but it feels restrictive to me and reduces the amount of discussion, there's quite a lot of mod action which can be offputting (nobody likes to do things wrong or cause hassle), and asking questions are a great way of starting conversations.

Oh... We get tons of "moved to Q&A because this is a question" which obviously generates a lot of work but it doesn't feel daft to me to post mod questions in mods, general questions in general... Meanwhile "Q&A" specifically says "New to the sitef? Got a question? Ask it here" which implies that it's for new people to ask questions, not for all questions.

I'm sure there's a good reason for all of this but I've always found that on a small forum, community thrives with conversation and increasing conversations and volume is generally a positive. I used to mod a motorbike forum of similiar size- possibly less members but about twice the traffic- and spam aside I did a mod action maybe once every 6 weeks. Letting it flow more naturally and go a little OT  made it feel less like a speech and more like a conversation.

We've actually discussed this extensively and you're right. The Q&A forum is a very bizarre entity that harks from an era when the forum was very, very small.

We don't want to delete the forum because there is a wealth of great info in there. The plan is to merge it with 'General Nerf' leaving the forum simply as an introduction for new members. Unfortunately that means trawling through all of the topics and moving the relevant ones manually. A task that I will be doing gradually over the next few weeks. There will probably be many beers and snacks involved. Wish me luck.

Thanks again for your input people. Keep 'em coming.

Cheers for the response! That sounds like a bastard of a job  Laughing Does this software allow you to just close a sub without deleting it? Not an ideal solution but a lot less work and keeps it all searchable, doesn't break links etc

(the most hate i ever got for modding was moving some topics out of a dead sub into a live one, turned out it broke a load of direct links, oops!)

We could do that, but that would just archive the whole lot. There's some stuff in there we want to keep on top so it's a matter of finding a way that works best.

I will continue to mod anyone who won't spell, punctuate, follow the code of conduct or bother to read forum titles before posting. If people want to just dump posts of poor quality in any old place they can go to Redditt.

Thanks ON. I doubt anybody on here would expect any difference.  My only objection was the double posting issue that was caused.  I guess it's choosing the lesser of the 2 evils.

We have a fix for that, a change in how we mod the post seems like it might work. I know it's annoying not being able to add to "red boxed" posts.

Don't know if anyone else is having the same issue but for the last couple of days threads with new unread posts haven't been showing up yellow as they usually do.

Ignore this, it seems to have fixed itself again now

I have a slight feeling we aught to have more build guides available (like in the vault). If find it quite beneficial having a build guide in front of me when I'm modding instead of :
A) searching (which is nothing more than an annoyance)
B) relying on Q/A

Not to forget many people on this forum are highly skilled and make beautiful blasters and we aught to use them as an example

Just an ask for more consistent moderation of the trading forum. There are numerous examples of comments on prices and posts with the appearance of haggling but I caught a mod warning when typically this isn't the case.. In honesty I was unaware of that particular part of the CoC but that's after using the forum for 4months and reading everything new, the implication being that there either hasn't been any comments on prices, or there has but there hasn't been any mod warnings.
Not bothered if it's tighter or more lax but consistency is key and if there is a change please could we have it communicated to avoid frustration.

For the record (m'lord) I had posted my reply prior to noticing the mod warning. So I hope it can be seen that my comments were in good spirit.

If I had my way I would close the trading forum, it's a pain in the arse.

It's my fault for not reading the warning signs and treading on the land mine.. But that's after watching half the community go for jog over it Smile

I wouldn't of said anything but bar a double post way back when I didn't understand what that was I think I've been fairly 'Gary Lineker' and I know it was Mandatory but the warning had the implication I was breaking that cardinal Nerf rule.. The one about Thou shalt not be a dick or something..

I would dispute the "half the community has got away with it." If you wish to make a complaint about moderation then please contact UKNerfwar, citing the offending posts, with links to the specific instances being sited. I would point out any unmoderated instance of price whining over 3 months old pre dates both a  change to CoC for trading and some people being issued with more formal warnings via PM. We try not to do anything more than reminders in post, to respect the members right to privacy and to give people a chance to change their behaviour without being publicly pilloried.

Just a thought about an issue raised and posted about earlier up this page. But in relation to the Q&A issue could we not have a Q&A section as we do now but when clicked upon it opens to subfolders which is where we could have the category broken down to things like modification Q&A, general Q&A etc.

As said just a thought.

It's entirely possible. We'd have to collect some data on how people use the Q&A forum. Do people search for answers to their problems or simply ask the community?

Perhaps this is something we can think about for BritNerf 2.0.

I second this, it would be useful to have guides for mods because using the search function is a pain.

Id like to suggest taking it a step further and having a section for each blaster that gives general info about the blaster and then links to upgrade options and where to buy materials, also wiring diagrams and links to video tutorials.
Then we have a one stop shop for all things modding.

Also the same for batteries and chargers, the info and spreadsheets we have are really great and everything you need is there but having it all in one central location would be a big help.

To illustrate my point I have recently priced up my summer expenditure to join the #FlywheelMasterRace in time for BoB and I had no fewer than 7 tabs open to pull in all the info I needed from Britnerf Blastersmiths hobbyking  etc etc it was a nightmare.

In that case, create the content and we'll get get it curated. Make individual threads in the Modifications forum and I'll then create a master Modifications Guides thread in the Vault which indexes and back links to user content. Smile

Users are then responisble for keeping content up to date and responding when information expires. For example, a place stops selling a particular thing.
