Fuck nuggets, I've just read this through. I'm going to rework the OP to reflect what we've learned in the last 2 years! Man this makes me feel old...

EDIT:

UPDATE: I've started making notes on the OP as to what I'm going to put into the new version. Once I've got 2.0, I'll post and re-sticky the blank thread and lock this one. If you've got anything to add to the OP or discussion around recommended battery types them I'm all ears.

I'm particularly in need of experience with NiMH and 180s. I don't use either and don't recommend them, either. I appreciate they're a perfectly good build option but they're outside of my scope.

NiMh- all the sub C sizes fit the RS and larger shells. The 8.4 works with stock motors and 180's or other 2s Mid motors very well. Many NiMh packs have poor connectors which should be swapped for high current. Higher internal resistance and lower discharge vs lipos are a disadvantage. Can be mounted externally if your system allows it, most UK games DONT. AA size packs almost all crap, avoid especially no brand China ones as they are pitiful discharge as well as low capacity.
180's- Potential for easy 10-15 amps draw per motor, regardless of wind etc, so bigger physical size and capacity are primary concerns in selection, Ideally 30c + and as big as will physically fit the tray. XP180's can pull a huge 20-30A EACH, so no 850mah diddy packs for those.
Also check out new Turnigy Graphene packs, big pack performance in smaller sizes. 40-50c in a 1000mah compact pack! A bit more cost than trad packs but worth it for top tier mods.

I'll hold off buying batteries/possible motor upgrades etc for the time being as my knowledge is terrible in this regard and a nice fresh post with current info is just what the doctor ordered. (currently got trustfires powering stock motors)

I might just nuke and start from the beginning if I'm honest. I'll actually add it to my to-do list I actually stand a chance of getting around to it. Smile

Nobody is blaming you! We need gear shiny more than a battery guide. Email me if you want to spread the load or get Discord, I have a special channel on it.
