Post How To Build a Pro Primary- Build Log  Reply with quote
I don't normally do WIP posts, so this is a first. I thought I would share what goes into building an FDS blaster, warts and all. Thanks to Franksie and Blindgeek for the inspiration.

I start with the brief. This was from the minion-
SMG
130 motors
100-105fps capped
Flat top
No Milsim paint!

My starting point was a tired RS I have had in the loft for a year or so, probably bought from this very forum.
I begin by cutting the shell, in this case with a senior hacksaw and a very sharp new blade.

The front cuts were made with the battery box still on, so as to retain the forward motor mounts but with the cage OUT to avoid cutting off the faux barrel mount.
Here's the inside of the shell, the component side, where I bonded in the left over piece of orange battery box, incorporating the cage mounts. I also removed a number of internal rib sections to give me space for the mod loom. There's a couple more holes to drill but this is basically it ready to fit up the new parts.

The other side, showing the front orange but of battery box again.

The top of the shell, with the cage in, showing the work to be done adding scratch built top panels and a new front end.

That's all for this entry, I will add new bits as I work through the build. Hopefully I can fit some work in around my remaining commissions!

Decembers Update-

Front end, mocked up with the BSUK parts, held with hot glue. Above the shell is the lower layer of the flat top, two 23mm strips of 4mm thick PVC, cut on a 20ton metal shear!

Close up. Hot glue was used to hold the parts in place ready for measuring.

First job is to file the back edge of the flat top plates to shape.

That's the final fit done at the back, only a little Devcon or filler required on assembly now.

Full length of the top rails, held with more hot glue ready to mark the length.

Cut line all marked with a set square, ready to cut. Note line to the bevel on the front plate so it will all line through.

More as I get it done!

I suppose I should get those parts out to you then. Razz Oh and as soon as I get those cut shells back from you, a flat top rail kit is on the list of shit to get together.

Much needed Boff! There are a million ways to tacticool a stryfe and not nearly enough for the legendary FA. Put me down for some of those with my next order Smile

Interested to see how this turns out and what front end your boy has chosen Smile

EDIT

Double post fixed. ON

This thread is old, but new content has now been added! Latest bit of the build. This time it's the start of flat topping.
