Post Star Wars Rogue One Death Trooper Deluxe.  Reply with quote

So I picked this up in toys R us with 20% off so decided to give it a go.

Out the box it feels nice and comfy in the hand with a nice textured grip and nice feeling pump grip. Comes with a stock, standard N Strike attachment but it is fixed so no adjusting but its not too short and works well with the blaster. Also a nice looking small scope, same one as the storm trooper blaster I think and it reminds me of a clear shot scope a little but it has no "lenses" in it so its like a Modulus one.

We have a 3 dart smart AR front loader and for an RRP of 40 this is bonkers but its starwars so suckers like me will always buy them Very Happy

On priming the blaster you activate the led's that charge your Glow darts (it comes with 6 starwars branded ones) and the trigger pull activates the PEW PEW laser sounds and lights and then fires the dart.

Performance wise out of the box it wasn't great over the Chronograph I shot 50 brand new Yellow Koosh and got an average of 50 FPS. I did notice a difference with the last barrel of the three consistently shooting less with some shots in the 30's.

Decided to crack it open and see what we had inside as I was fairly disapointed with its performance yet I really like the shell and Im a sucker for starwars blasters #igrewupstarwars inside we had what looked very like a sidestrike plunger and very similar spring but unfortunately I didn't have a side strike upgrade spring in stock so went with a BSUK 5Kg Elite spring but had to commit a cardinal sin and chop a couple of coils off to fit it in. Also the seal on the plunger tube was really poor so added a bit of PTFE tape under the O'Ring to sure it up and a light re-grease of the tube and moving parts. Due to the wires everywhere for the light and sound effects it was hard to get the barrel assembly and smart AR to check for air release holes and I was running short on time so I just left this as I didn't want to start messing with the wiring. Anyway I eventually managed to squeeze the new spring in and get it closed up (it did explode open on me several times) and when I put it back on the Chrono I was amazed with the results.

A new average of 80 FPS over 50 darts with new yellow Koosh. Some of the shots out of the first two barrels were topping over 100 FPS which I was a little shocked by but the lower third barrel shots brought the average down.

I now love this blaster. Its not the most pratical but its very starwarsy, it shoots Frikkin Laser Beams and now it has a decent amount of power to make it viable for use in a war.

Here's a wee video to document my thoughts and mods on it.

Cheers. Very Happy

Just watched your video.  It was very good and I liked how you included the chronoing without having to watch you exclusively doing it!

Questions..
The BSUK spring looked to be thinner than the stock,  could you double spring it,  do you think?
Does it slam fire? It looked as if it had the mech to do it.
Were the LEDs as bright as they appeared on the vid?

Damn,  I've just reminded myself what a MK.1 Lawgiver looks like,  I was hopeful you could wrangle it's silhouette out of that.  Cool blaster all the same!

It could possibly be doubled up might be just enough room in the plunger tube, might need a bit of reinforcement though as just that spring was putting a lot of pressure on it, it was hard to put back together.

No slam fire. To do with the light and sound action I think. There is a lock to prevent you priming if the trigger is pulled, I left it in as the kids will probably want to use this one. I did have a bit about the lack of slam fire filmed but cut it for time. Yes the leds are fairly bright, it looks awesome in the dark and the glow darts are very bright when they come out.

I've still to.find a decent enough Nerf Blaster to make a Mk1 Lawgiver but might have a.go with a Falcon, sharp or ion fire at some point and see if it works.
