And so, we descended upon the Downend Road Chapel again.  At first we thought the weather would force us to remain indoors, but we were lucky and the 34 bodies that turned up were able to enjoy nearly full access to the Chapel and it's grounds (the grass was lava though, because of mud).

It was a great day, and much fun was had.  There were technical difficulties that seem to have become a tradition.  The best by far was L11 getting a dart stuck in his RapidStrike and having smoke and burning stench emanate from the motor vents.  But beyond that there were so many good things to happen.

In terms of games, we ran with the tried and tested: HvZ, Kill Confirmed, Team Death Match being the go to games of choice.  We threw in a Defend the Core to see how it would work... and it wasn't bad, needs some tweaking, but it was good fun - we split the group up into 3 teams, and each team took a turn defending the core from the 2 attacking teams.  The attacking team had to get one of the three "missiles" they had into the tub in the centre of the gym.

Beyond that it was very much a typical war... so I won't bore you too much.  Much fun was had with the Chrono that Pete (UK Foam) brought along, he rigged it up to collect the darts.  I don't think we had an issue with loaners - I don't recall anyone saying they didn't have a blaster.

It was nice to put a name to a face as well... as Treezy attended, I'm sure he'll be along to let us know how we did.

There was much footage recorded, so I'm sure that we will be inundated with videos of the action.  I took a quick game out to take a few photos, not sure how good they turned out, but links will be below when they've been sorted, as will video links.

The highlight for me was actually not during a game.  Darren (our host) had organised for a bishop from another Chapel (one in Southmead I think) to come and meet us and see what we are about, and whether he would be interested in hosting us for some events.  This was good, Vince (the bishop), was a great guy and is confirming a date for us in February. He's said the 18th, we are just confirming times with him.  So that'll mean 2 venues for us to use, and hopefully a more stable events structure going forwards.

Anyway, I'll stop rambling and let the hoard descend on the thread.

Event Photos here.

I forgot a special mention to Welsh Mullet. Thanks for all your help today. You were a proper skivvy and got stuck in with the clean up afterwards.  Thanks

Note to self .. when I have a dart jam in the flywheels don't rev the motors to the dart burns lol ..... that smell!

It was a fantastic day. Good to see new faces and old returning.
I loved running arround with the Mastodon, but it needs a rewire and a lipo to unleash it's true potential.

And agreed, having a second venue is very good for us. For me it means word has got out about what we do and other parts of the community are interested.

Thanks to everyone who attended, I'll see you next time

That was great fun and kids are truly knackered!

Sorry for some of the rounds I kept thinking it was red vs blue and not blue vs people without bands. Blue doesn't register so well for me either especially given all the blue people normally wear and wield!

This created much confusion and hilarity in the kill confirmed rounds!  Laughing

I must also appologise for any permanent pain from the 'shoot the sitting duck in a barrel.. erm *cough* attack the core battles' were my RS 'accidentally' mowed down 6 guys in the back/side of the head.

Hope the 18th goes ahead, it was a blast Wink

If you strip that blaster down, can you strip the motors so I can take a look at what happened internally? It's been a while since I've seen a failure like that and I'm curious especially if there are MTB motors in there. Smile

Thanks for running such a great day, NewportNerfer113 and L11 and co!

I've got some footage, I've managed to get the first one up tonight before needing to pass out for a bit. Feedback would be great, as I've not worn a camera in a while and I'm pretty bad at video editing!

Boff - I'll probably be taking it apart next weekend to have a look. Soon as removed the jammed dart it worked perfectly. I want to open it up to be absolutely sure though!

Something I forgot to say in my other post was I got to run my new tactical gear sat.... wow what a diffrence that made, everything was so much easier. Props to BSUK for their Battle Belt, it was a game changer for me.

A great day and I was glad to be there after missing the last one.

I did think at one point L11 was going to watch fire when his blaster was smoking. A very familiar smell coming from the blaster.

Defend the core was good fun, although my tactics sucked and managed to position myself so badly I had to lie on the floor to avoid being shot, which didn't work.

I don't think there was an issue with spare blasters, hopefully next time the loaners will he a bit more competative.

Thanks to everyone for attending.

Finally I’ve got time to sit and write an after action report. Yeah, so I’m actually at work, but it’s quiet enough for me to type something up – such was the extant of the business of my birthday weekend.

BB5 was my first ever Nerf war, after getting involved in Nerf back in October. I was a bit nervous about attending on my own because I wouldn’t know anyone there, and was feeling very much a noob. But hey, it was my birthday, and I wasn’t going to sit at home on my own for the day!

Finding the venue was easy enough, and though there didn’t seem to be any obvious “reception” area or delegated organiser welcoming people at the door, people soon started chatting to me and I joined in the chaos of loading mags and kitting up. It was good to be able to put a few faces to forum screen names, and I even remembered a few of your actual names.

I’m not going to give a blow by blow account of the whole day as there’s already some good footage popping up on YouTube from the day, and if you were there then you already know how good it was.

It was the first time I’ve ever really used my new Rival Atlas, and that was a mixed bag (review and mod reports coming soon): watching a group of kids run away in fear screaming “Run! He’s got a Rival!” was great fun – the blaster then refusing to actually prime and fire, resulting in me getting hit and subsequently tagged out was not so great. I also think that trying to carry a flywheel primary, shotgun secondary, pistol backup, and 9 mags around at once was a bit cumbersome and overkill for most of the games – definitely need to refine my loadout.

I never knew zombies ran so fast! There were definitely some of these nu-school zombies in attendance on Saturday: nothing like the Zombies we had back in my day who wandered around slowly, mumbling something about “braaaaiiinnnsssss”.

I also learnt that when defending the core, having a barricade right in front of the door was a) good for holding down the door and stopping people coming in, b) really bad as people could just look over the top to where I was almost lying down behind it and shoot me in the head, and c) a terrible idea when I was on my own with nobody to tag me back in. Definitely need to move it back next time. However, the Atlas is awesome for clearing out barricades when attacking, even ones on the far side of the room!

I also learnt that I need to label my mags, as I lost a 12 round mag after defending the core (during final round of defenders) – if anyone picked up an extra 12 round mag by accident (half translucent orange) I’d be glad of its return at some point.

Huge thanks to the organisers, to everyone who said hello and chatted with me, and to everyone who picked up my balls throughout the day (because that doesn’t sound wrong, does it?).  Roll on February’s event!

Treezy, thanks for noting the issue with a registration point. We did have one, but it was in the middle Of The kit room. We shall move it nearer the door next time.

There were a few people who last mags, certainly a good idea to label them. However someone still has 2 or 3 of my 6 round mags.....if anyone wants to drop me a pm of they picked them up I think I have your ones and we can trade back at the next war.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I've enjoyed seeing everyone's footage. I think most of the videos are linked now. There may be some more coming, but there is so much footage coming out its actually quite amazing. One thing is have noticed is how I'm apparently allergic to being on camera. Where the hell  am I?

Could I suggest that maybe one person is nominated to welcome people and do sign ins, and they're given a hi-viz jacket/funky hat/other identifying piece of clothing that can be mentioned in adverts for the event? And perhaps a big sign saying "sign in here" or something similar?

As a newcomer it was quite intimidating to walk into a room full of people I didn't know, with no obvious person in charge of proceedings to discuss what the protocol was. I guess once you've been before you'll know the drill, but not everyone is confident enough to just walk into a busy room like that and get involved.

Thankfully everyone was nice and a few people started to chat to me after a few minutes of me standing around looking awkward!

For the last few GuN's I was involved in, I had the banner up next to the sign in table, angled in such a way that it guidedd people into the main hall - and I stood there welcoming people.

Ideally you want your best peoples person on the sign in desk
