Post Need a second opinion....  Reply with quote
So I removed a spring from an alpha trooper and added it to the spring already in a second-hand rampage I picked up a while ago. BTW my modding knowledge is very limited and only just starting out

The power it delivers is significantly better than a single stock spring, but the full draw requires a proper 'yank' otherwise it doesn't quite engage the catch, is this likely due to a poor catch spring, too much stress on the catch itself or just the force of a compressed spring-set requiring more 'oomph' to get the catch to engage?

The problem with 'double springing' is that you have two springs compressing in a space only designed for one. As the springs compress, they'll interfere with one another which is what causes the issue you describe.

Get yourself a spring from BSUK. The performance will be smoother and better than a double spring setup. Welcome to the hobby fella.

Your double spring has the wrong compressed length for your prime, that's why you have to abuse the catch all the time. Elite DP's in particular have very limited space around the plunger. If your prime is janky you are on the way to breaking something.
As noted buy a proper spring, they are cheap and actually work, unlike doubling.

No probs. Remember if a mod guide has no performance test figures to back it up, look for a better one!

It's worth trying a better catch spring though, that can help in such situations, even if it's not the optimal solution.
