Post Squad Survival  Reply with quote
Name:
Squad Survival

Outline:
Mash up of HVZ and Kill Confirmed. Two teams battle with a added zombie threat.

Number of teams:
2 with 1 OZ.

Objective:
Both teams fight it out with standard BB KC rules.
If you are tagged you go down on one knee. A team member can high five you back into the game.
If an opposing team member high fives you, you die. But, in this game if you die, you join the zombie herd!

OZ is set loose to eat whoever it can, if a zombie gets you, you join the herd.
If you tag a zombie, the zombie has a 3 second down time with a 3 immunity (3 and 3 can be altered, depending on player skill and numbers).

Winning team is the team with the last human.

Time limit:
10/15 mins.

Special rules/variations:
Special zombies with pool noodles or tank zombies.

We played this twice today at BB9 and it went down well and it worked nicely.
You need to take out the opposing team but watching your back for a zombie.

What's funny is if a teammate is down and a zombie is approaching, you need to decide - Do I save my teammate and risk being eaten or do I leave them to die.

I loved this game.  It worked really well and freshened up two of our staple games. mashing them into one.

I'm looking forward to playing it again.

Good write up as well.  The game is surprisingly simple, but there is danger everywhere.

I'm guessing there is some sort of stun countdown minus immunity or you wait until the new zombie puts their blaster to one side, to stop newly formed zombies immediately nomming the person who killed them?

Yeah, killed players have to ditch all blasters and team identifiers to tranform into a zombie: at BB there's a safe room where they have to put blasters in. Tags from zombies still carrying blasters are simply ignored.

EDIT:
I liked this game, but it was over all too fast! I'm a huge fan of KC, so felt a little let down with this one if I'm honest. While KC can often become a time-killing war of attrition, especially with players becoming better at playing tactically, I felt this was over faster than even standard HvZ games. I also felt that as soon as there's a couple of zombies running around it pretty much stopped being KC and became normal HvZ. It didn't have a sense of objective, other than not getting eaten.

I'd suggest that to make it last a bit longer maybe players tagged out by other players are killed and don't become zombies. That'll stop is becoming overrun with zombies and turning into normal HvZ.

Alternatively use the zombie rules we used for zombie Domination: start with a set number of zombies, and if they tag you, you're dead and out of the game, just as if an enemy had tagged you out - basically no infection spreading.

n_g - as Treezy has said when you become a zombie you have to put blasters down and loose identification.  We had problems at the earlier wars whereby zombies didn't do this, and nomed people as we weren't aware they where zombies.

We brought the rule in that if a zombie noms you with a blaster in hand it dosent count, blaster have to be taken into the safe room.

Treezy - good feedback, it was over quickly. We have some refining to do like with any new game, we can play it a few times, change up the rules untill we are happy with it.

I find the zombie threat means there is no camping, and you always need to be aware of your surroundings.
